The 18-year-old has played almost 50 games across all competitions since the start of the season, starting 43 times in 45 Barcelona appearances, a number already too much for a player of his age.

Lamine Yamal had a fantastic season for Barcelona while it lasted. In his 45 appearances across all competitions, the reigning Kopa award winner has scored 24 goals and provided 17 assists, currently leading the way in assists in La Liga with 11, two ahead of his closest rivals.

He has scored 17 La Liga goals and registered 10 goal contributions in as many Champions League appearances, while also tying the record for the most goals by a teenager in the competition and surpassing several other milestones.

Having finished runner-up in the 2025 Ballon d'Or, the Spaniard has leveled up his game, and hardly has anyone had a better season, although a few stars from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are close in attendance.

His chances of breaking Ronaldo Nazario's record as the youngest Ballon d'Or winner are still very high, but Barcelona's early Champions League exit may mean he would have to wait longer, but a good World Cup outing with Spain could make him the clear favourite.

For a player much accustomed to first-team football, it has been a disappointing first season in Spain for Bardghji, and if Barcelona do intend to keep him beyond the summer, these minutes will really help their case in convincing him.

Barring an astronomical surprise, the Catalans are expected to get home and dry in La Liga, and with Raphinha expected to be back before the Clasico, their coronation as league champions may come sooner rather than later.

Lamine Yamal has played a lot of minutes this season and even though he looked unstoppable any time he stepped onto the pitch, a breakdown due to fatigue may become inevitable.
