Ranking the best teams from set-pieces in the Premier League this season

Set-piece has become a real asset in today's football as teams try as much as they can to maximize every goalscoring opportunity, and several teams, especially in the Premier League have found a way to crack it to their advantage. Is

In the ongoing season, set-pieces have been decisive in the outcome of games and the league standings, with pundits and fans already criticizing certain clubs for their knack for scoring goals in these situations.

Ahead of the kick-off of Gameweek 25 games, we explore the numbers behind, by ranking the best teams from set-pieces in the Premier League this season, and how it has impacted the status of these clubs in the standings.

Ranking the best Premier League teams from set-piece

1. Manchester United

Manchester United ranks as the strongest Premier League team from set-pieces so far this season, with an average of 0.08 goals for every set-piece opportunity.

Bruno Fernandes's deliveries have been instrumental, with seven of the Portuguese's 12 assists coming from set-pieces, and this has also played a significant role in the resurgence, and they significantly improved their 15th-place finish last season.

Set-piece helped secure their first two wins of the season against Burnley and Chelsea. It also helped them achieve a landmark league win at Anfield back in October, and an important win against Crystal Palace.

2. Arsenal

The Gunners have earned themselves quite a reputation from set-piece and have scored more goals than any other team in the Premier League this season since the start of the season, with it being their first to secure a 1-0 win in Old Trafford.

With the quartet of Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke whipping in the crosses and Gabriel, Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori wrecking havocs in the box, Mikel Arteta's team have successfully instilled fear in the opposition when they win a set-piece.

Important ones have come against Fulham, Manchester United, Brighton, Everton, and Wolves, but they have scored a lot more, and can be considered the kings when it comes to converting from set pieces.

3. Chelsea

Chelsea have also weaponize set-piece and have become one of the top beneficiaries in the Premier League this season, where they have scored 6.7 goals from every 100 they have been awarded.

Trevor Chalobah has been able to produce multiple goals, while other defenders and Moises Caicedo have also converted goals, Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez are responsible for the deliveries.

4. Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs have relied on their defenders for a better percentage of their Premier League goals this season, and that means set-piece has become the most lethal of their best goal-creating actions.

Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero have racked up a combined 10 Premier League goal contributions, with four goals each and one assist apiece.

The North Londoners average 5.7 goals per 100 set pieces, with most of their recent Premier League points coming thanks to set-piece situations, including Archie Gray's lone strike for their last league win back at the end of December.

5. Fulham

Marco Silva's side ranks in the top five for the strongest Premier League teams from set-piece, managing to find the back of the net 5.5 times per 100 awarded set-pieces.

Set-piece goals, from direct free-kick goals to penalties, the Cottagers have been lucky with the margins, and this has helped them take up a place in the top half of the table, with just six points between them and the top five.

For a team whose eight of ten Premier League wins so far have been by a goal difference, Harry Wilson, and Raul Jimenez have been decisive for Fulham in set-piece situations, and a few have been match-winners.

6. Newcastle, Leeds, and Aston Villa

The trio are tied on a similar conversion rate from set-pieces, with 5.1 goals record from 100 awarded set-pieces, a massive improvement for a team like Leeds United, which has helped them stay out of the relegation zone so far.

For Aston Villa who sit third on the log, it helped them secure a massive victory over Manchester City, a win that turned their season around and increased belief when they were in the process of overcoming a very poor start to the season.

Given their reputation from the past, it is a low conversion rate for Newcastle United, but an important one would be the corner kick that helped them beat Leeds United in a seven-goal thriller, where a corner kick ultimately resulted in Harvey Barnes scoring a 90+12th-minute winner.

9. West Ham United

By converting 4.9 in every 100, West Ham United ranks ninth strongest Premier League team from set-pieces, but Nuno Espirito Santo will surely be working on improvement, especially since their last two wins have been secured through set-pieces.

The Hammers are currently six points from safety but have shown improvement in recent games, including the last time out, where they led 2-0 away at Chelsea only to end up on the losing side after conceding three second-half goals.

10. Bournemouth

Bournemouth occupies the tenth spot in the rankings, successfully converting 4.6 goals per 100 set pieces. The Cherries have utilized these dead-ball situations to maintain a steady mid-table presence.

Andoni Iraola's charge often relies on the physical presence of their forward line to capitalize on high-quality deliveries, especially when playing at home in the AMEX.

11. Crystal Palace

The Eagles follow closely behind with a conversion rate of 4.4 goals per 100 opportunities, a dwindling productive rate owing to the departure of Eberechi Eze in the summer, while the recent loss of Marc Guehi may see it get worse.

Under their current setup, Palace has effectively used set pieces to stay competitive in tight matches, frequently turning corners and wide free kicks into vital goal-scoring chances to navigate a challenging Premier League campaign.

12. Brighton & Hove Albion

Known more for their fluid open-play football, Brighton nonetheless averages 4.1 goals per 100 set pieces. While they rank in the bottom half for set-piece efficiency, the Seagulls have still managed to find the net through organized routines that supplement their approach under Fabian Hurzeler.

13. Sunderland

Returning to the top flight, Sunderland has held their own by converting exactly 4 goals per 100 set-piece situations, including to end Arsenal's clean sheet run when they clashed at the Stadium of Light in November.

For a side battling to re-establish itself in the Premier League, these four goals per hundred have often been the difference between a narrow defeat and a hard-earned point, and also helped them stay the only team with an unbeaten home record so far.

14. Manchester City

Surprisingly, Pep Guardiola's team sits near the bottom of the efficiency table, averaging just 3.8 goals per 100 set pieces.

They remain the league's dominant force in open play, but their relatively low conversion rate from dead balls suggests a preference for intricate passing over aerial duels in the box.

15. Burnley

Burnley finds themselves in 15th place with a conversion rate of 3.6 goals per 100, a disappointing return for a team that historically thrives on set-piece dominance.

Their lower ranking this season reflects a tactical shift under new management, and a struggle to find the consistent delivery required to punish opposition defenses. They could be heading back to the Championship.

16. Everton

The Toffees, typically known for their aerial prowess at Goodison Park have not yet settled well into their new Hill Dickinson stadium, and have so far managed 3.5 goals per 100 set-piece opportunities.

In a season where every goal is precious, the blue half of Merseyside will be looking to rediscover the set-piece lethality that once made them one of the most feared sides in the league.

17. Liverpool

Ranking unusually low, Liverpool averages only 3.4 goals per 100 set pieces, Liverpool will rue the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold and the inability to consistently field Andrew Robertson into the starting XI, because these two defined an era with their deliveries.

Mohamed Salah's dip in form has also impacted their productivity from set-piece and Arne Slot’s men now rely instead on their high-intensity transition play to drive their title defence aspirations, one that is unrealistic at this stage of the season.

18. Nottingham Forest

Forest sits just above the bottom three in terms of efficiency, converting 3.3 goals per 100 set-piece chances. Their struggle to maximize these opportunities has often left them vulnerable, while they also rank very high for set-piece goals conceded.

19. Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves have found set-piece success difficult to come by this season, ranking second to last with just 2.5 goals per 100. Their inability to threaten from corners and free kicks has contributed to their poor season, one that has made relegation inevitable.

20. Brentford

Commonly regarded as set-piece innovators, Brentford surprisingly props up the table with a league-low 1.9 goals per 100 set pieces. The Bees, who have previously led the league

ue in this department, will be desperate to fix their routines as they head into the final stretch of the season.
