Weekend Recap | Arsenal, Clasico rivals and Dortmund emerge biggest winners

Not too many surprises in top European leagues as far as results are concerned during the weekend, but there are a few of them that had huge impact in title races, continental qualifications, and relegation battles.
From the Premier League, where Man City and Aston Villa slump in their quest to catch-up with Arsenal to the Bundesliga, where Bayern Munich dropped points in back-to-back games, and to the LaLiga, where it has become a two-horse title race, here is a recap of the weekend in Europe top five leagues.
Weekend Recap | Europe's top five leagues
Premier League Recap
Arsenal extended their lead at the Premier League summit to six points following Manchester City and Aston Villa's failures, while fortune continues to smile on Chelsea and Manchester United under their new coaches.
Arsenal saw off Leeds United amid the adversities thanks to goals from Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyökeres, and Gabriel Jesus on Saturday evening to re-establish their seven-point lead before their rivals played.
The Gunners had to travel to Yorkshire by other means on Friday evening after thick fog prevented their scheduled flight, while they also lost Bukayo Saka to an injury during the warm-up and had to replace him with Madueke.
Martin Zubimendi headed home the opener from Madueke's cross before the England international scored from a direct corner for his first Premier League goal for his new club to double the advantage as the visitors headed into the break with a cushion.
Viktor Gyökeres continued his scoring form of late by making it three before substitute Gabriel Jesus completed the rout later in the game to help the league leaders return to winning ways after going three without a win in the competition.

Chelsea overcame a poor first-half showing, where they trailed 2-0, to beat West Ham United 3-2 as Liam Rosenior became only the fourth coach to win a Premier League game where they have been behind by 2+ goals at half-time.
Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville fired the Hammers in front, but João Pedro and Marc Cucurella came off the bench to level the score after the interval, before Enzo Fernández scored a late winner to send Stamford Bridge into raptures.
Manchester United had it much easier against Fulham before the game turned on its head as the visitors came from 2-0 down to level the score in the first minute of added time, but just as they did at the Emirates last weekend, United found a way.
Casemiro's first-half header was doubled by Matheus Cunha in the second half, but Raúl Jiménez won and converted a penalty off Harry Maguire to become the player with the most Premier League penalties taken with a perfect record, scoring his 12th from 12 attempts to surpass Yaya Touré.
Substitute Kevin scored his first Premier League goal to level the score six minutes later, but Benjamin Šeško, who came off the bench earlier, scored in the 94th minute to restore the lead and sealed a 3-2 win for Michael Carrick's team.
Liverpool also had to come from a goal down to beat Newcastle United at Anfield, a win inspired by Hugo Ekitiké's brace—the same player who slipped through the grasp of their opponent back in the summer.
Anthony Gordon gave the visitors the lead, making it a third consecutive season of scoring against the Reds to end his goal drought, but Hugo Ekitiké scored a brace to complete Liverpool's comeback before the halftime break.
Florian Wirtz continued his fine form of late with another goal to go with his first-half assist, while Ibrahima Konaté also got on the scoresheet late on to seal a 4-1 win for Liverpool, marking a return to winning ways after a torrid spell in the league.
Aston Villa failed to take advantage of Brentford, who went down by a man three minutes before half-time, only to score the game's only goal before the break and secure a rare win away to Unai Emery's team, who thought they had leveled through debutant Tammy Abraham, but the goal was ultimately ruled out.
Manchester City also failed to keep up with Arsenal in the title race after blowing a 2-0 lead to Tottenham Hotspur as the much-anticipated Premier League clash ended 2-2 in the London stadium.
City looked out of sight for their hosts in the first half, and goals from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo helped them make the most of a dominant period, but the story changed after the break, and Dominic Solanke bagged a brace to deny Pep Guardiola a win.
Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest played out a draw in their battle and that helped Spurs from falling further in the standings, while Brighton were also denied a win at home as Beto scored a late equalizer for Everton.
Goals from Eli Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott helped Bournemouth secure an impressive 2-0 win at Wolves to continue their quest to return to the top half of the table. Wolves stay on eight points, seven behind Burnley, who play away at Sunderland on Monday night.
LaLiga Recap
Barcelona and Real Madrid win to continue their battle for the LaLiga title this season, but Atlético Madrid and Villarreal are turning out to be pretenders as they continue to lose ground in the race after another winless weekend.
Despite conceding a first-half goal that canceled out Lamine Yamal's opener against Elche, Barcelona struck just before the break through Ferran Torres to restore their lead before Marcus Rashford came off the bench to seal the win with the third.

Real Madrid had much difficulty getting the better of Rayo Vallecano, who has become their bogey team. Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring with a beautiful goal that saw him end his LaLiga drought five minutes after Jude Bellingham suffered a serious hamstring injury in the 10th minute.
Jorge de Frutos fired the visitors back on level terms four minutes after the restart, but Kylian Mbappé converted a late penalty won by Brahim Diaz, to secure a narrow win for Álvaro Arbeloa's team, putting behind a disappointing week where they missed a top-eight finish in the Champions League.
Despite taking an early lead away to Osasuna through Gerard Moreno's penalty, Villarreal had to settle for a draw thanks to the Spanish striker, who scored again 20 minutes from time to prevent a 2-1 defeat after their hosts had turned the game around.
Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid also fell short as they could not beat Levante on Saturday. Inspired by goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, the hosts stood firm and held on for a scoreless draw, a result that saw Atleti fall 10 points off first place.
Real Betis came from a goal down to beat Valencia 2-1 and move ahead of Espanyol, who lost at home to Alavés on Friday night, while Athletic Club was unable to take advantage of 10-man Sociedad as a 1-1 draw left them outside the top 10.
Real Oviedo beat Girona to end a 14-game winless run since their away win at Valencia at the end of September, giving themselves a chance in the relegation battle by moving to 16 points, four away from safety.
Serie A Recap

Routine wins for Inter, Napoli, and Juventus, while Como missed a big chance to move into the top five by failing to beat Atalanta, who played over 80 minutes of their meeting with 10 men after Honest Ahanor was sent off less than 10 minutes into the game.
A super Marco Carnesecchi in goal for the visitors was not to be beaten, making nine saves, including one from a late penalty from Nico Paz, to ensure his team came away with a point.
Antonio Vergara and Miguel Gutiérrez gave Antonio Conte's team a 2-0 lead against Fiorentina, but the visitors could only pull one back as Napoli held on for the win, while Lautaro Martínez and Piotr Zieliński were the goalscorers in Inter's 2-0 win at Cremonese.
Gleison Bremer's brace, Weston McKennie, and Jonathan David scored as Juventus moved into the top four after a sensational 4-1 victory away to Parma, as they await the result of Roma on Monday night to ascertain if they'll maintain their new spot.
All the teams in the bottom seven suffered losses; hence, no change in the relegation battle as Fiorentina, Pisa, and Hellas Verona occupy the drop zone.
Bundesliga Recap
Bayern Munich stopped again and Dortmund did just enough to take full advantage with a home win, while Bayer Leverkusen beat Eintracht Frankfurt and moved closer to RB Leipzig, who lost at home to Mainz.

It was a rare occurrence in the Bundesliga, but Bayern Munich have dropped points in back-to-back games after their failure to get the better of SV Hamburg in a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening, a week after losing at home to Augsburg.
The hosts took the lead from the spot through Arsenal loanee Fábio Vieira, but the Bavarians scored the next two goals through Harry Kane late in the first half and Luis Díaz less than a minute after the restart.
However, Luka Vušković headed home the equalizer seven minutes before the hour mark to secure a point for the relegation strugglers as they move up to 13th on the log at the end of the weekend games.
Dortmund took advantage of Bayern Munich's slump to close the gap to six points after coming from behind to beat Heidenheim on Sunday thanks to a goal from Waldemar Anton and a brace from striker Serhou Guirassy.
It wasn't an easy evening for the hosts, who took a late lead in the first half, only to see it canceled out just before the break and the visitors taking the lead three minutes after the restart, with both goals coming from midfielder Julian Niehues.
Serhou Guirassy scored his brace to help Niko Kovač's charge turn the game around again; while the Guinean missed a late penalty to complete his hat-trick, BVB won't mind as they were able to hold on for the win.
Andrej Kramarić's brace inspired Hoffenheim to a 3-1 victory over Union Berlin as they solidified their position in third, while Stuttgart beat Freiburg to move ahead of Leipzig, with Bayer Leverkusen now just a point below the Red Bull club.
Mainz's famous win at Leipzig helped them pull away from the relegation zone and strengthen their hold on the playoff spot, and at the same time leaves them a point from safety, while it continues to get frustrating for Heidenheim and St. Pauli.
Ligue 1 Recap

PSG overcame a stubborn Strasbourg team to stay in control of the Ligue 1 title race, but Lens continue to push with another win, while failure to win now sees Marseille closer to a race for Champions League qualification than the league title.
RC Lens kicked off the weekend games with a narrow win over Le Havre on Friday night, helping them reclaim top spot, while Marseille was held to a 2-2 draw at Paris FC as they failed to stay in their chase of the runaway leaders.
Noah Nartey's first-half strike helped Lyon down Lille and move level on points with Marseille, while PSG overcame Strasbourg 2-1, despite going down a man before scoring the winner through Nuno Mendes, while the hosts missed an early penalty before Senny Mayulu broke the deadlock.
All teams in the relegation and relegation playoff zones failed to win, but Auxerre did pick up a point that saw them move a point closer to Nantes in the playoff place.
