Picks, Previews, Predictions | Madrid, City, and PSG face bogey opposition in 10 must-watch games of the weekend

Amid the plentiful options of games across Europe's top five leagues this weekend, Betrekatips has selected 10 interesting battles, featuring the heavyweights as they lock horns with their respective bogey teams.

10 must-watch games of the weekend

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City

Premier League matchday 24 is highlighted by a meeting between two heavyweights, Tottenham and Manchester City, as Spurs look to overcome a poor home record against a side Pep Guardiola considers one of his toughest challenges.

The Premier League enters a pivotal weekend with Manchester City traveling to North London for a must-win tie against a Tottenham side that has historically proved to be Pep Guardiola’s bogey opponent.

Despite City's strength, it promises to be a classic encounter as Spurs always seem to find their way to good fortune against City. However, the visitors may be considered huge favourites, especially having been boosted by winter arrivals of Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi.

No team has beaten Pep Guardiola more often than Spurs, and despite their current domestic struggles, they will be keen to give the visitors, who may trail Arsenal by seven points before kick-off, a run for their money.

Both teams head into the fixture on the back of Champions League wins and a direct spot in the round of 16, but Spurs are largely underwhelming in the league, so much so that a defeat could see them finish the weekend in 16th.

Prediction: Spurs 2-3 City

Liverpool vs. Newcastle United

Liverpool return to Premier League action at Anfield this Saturday, desperate to secure their first league victory of 2026 following a five-game winless slump, which was compounded by a 3-2 loss to Bournemouth last time out.

While Arne Slot’s men recently thrashed Qarabağ 6-0 in the UEFA Champions League, they face a resilient Newcastle United side known for a disciplined low block and lethal counter-attacking speed.

The Reds must also deal with defensive injuries while relying on the creative spark of Florian Wirtz and striker Hugo Ekitike, who previously snubbed the Magpies for Merseyside during the summer transfer window.

Ekitike remains unfazed by any potential backlash, stating, "I don't care [about receiving stick], I play for Liverpool. I have my fans here."

With Newcastle sensing vulnerability, a positive outcome on an evening that demands authority to prevent Liverpool's title defense from further unraveling would see them end the day ahead of their host.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle United

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Everton

Mid-table rivals Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton lock horns on Saturday at the Amex Stadium, with both clubs desperate to improve their contrasting forms in the Premier League and keep their European hopes alive.

The Seagulls have struggled recently, winning just once in their last ten league games and trailing at halftime in a division-high 12 matches this season.

Conversely, David Moyes’s Everton have been exceptional on the road, keeping five clean sheets in their last six away trips and sitting just three points off sixth place.

While Brighton welcome back Georginio Rutter and Yankuba Minteh to bolster an attack led by Danny Welbeck, they face an Everton side likely to welcome back Michael Keane to a defense that has conceded only 26 goals in 23 matches.

Despite Brighton’s strong home record, Everton, who have been involved in several low-scoring matches this term may find a way to frustrate the Seagulls.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Everton

Real Madrid vs. Rayo Vallecano

Real Madrid return to domestic action on Sunday at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, hosting 16th-place Rayo Vallecano with the hopes of closing the one-point gap behind league leaders Barcelona.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side enters the clash reeling from an incredible 4-2 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League, a result that has forced the Spanish giants into a two-legged knockout round playoff after finishing ninth, despite starting the day in third place.

Despite their stature, Los Blancos face a historical hurdle, having won just two of their last seven encounters against Rayo, including a goalless draw earlier this season, as the visitors have forced themselves into a bogey team.

While Rayo have not secured a league victory at the Bernabéu since 1996, their recent resilience makes them a formidable opponent for a Madrid squad currently determined to bounce back from their European disappointment.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Rayo Vallecano

Athletic Club vs. Real Sociedad

After exiting the Champions League in midweek, Athletic Bilbao hosts rivals Real Sociedad at San Mamés this Sunday in a high-stakes Basque Derby defined by contrasting runs of form.

While they have traditionally dominated this fixture at home, winning six of the last ten meetings, Bilbao are currently mired in a tough stretch, winning just 1 of their last 6 matches and struggling with defensive vulnerabilities.

Conversely, Real Sociedad arrives as the likelier winner based on recent form, boasting an impressive ten-match unbeaten run across all competitions and a robust attacking profile, even ending Barcelona's unbeaten run during this period.

Despite Bilbao's historical traditional home edge, their recent slide to 13th in the table, combined with significant injuries to key players like Aymeric Laporte, Oihan Sancet, Inaki Williams, and Yeray Álvarez, leaves them vulnerable against a clinical Sociedad side currently sitting 8th in La Liga.

Prediction: Athletic Club 2-2 Real Sociedad

Como vs. Atalanta

Two of Serie A’s most consistent sides meet this Sunday as Como host Atalanta in a decisive battle for European qualification with the season already stretched.

Como enter the fixture on a three-match winning run, including a dominant 6-0 win over Torino and a 3-1 Coppa Italia victory away to Fiorentina, while Atalanta remain unbeaten in the league in 2026 with a recent 4-0 thrashing of Parma.

While the visitors have averaged an impressive 2.38 points per game recently, Como's formidable home record, which has made them top five for most home points won this season makes them slight favorites to edge Rafaelle Palladino's team.

One draw, one win, and one defeat for both teams in their three Serie A meetings so far, and Atalanta, who were victorious at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia last season will be looking to earn a win that'll take them closer to their host in the standings.

Prediction: Como 2-1 Atalanta

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Picks, Previews, Predictions | Madrid, City, and PSG face bogey opposition in 10 must-watch games of the weekend

Eintracht Frankfurt head into Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Bayer Leverkusen in a state of flux, seeking their first win in seven matches under interim manager Dennis Schmitt.

The Eagles sit eighth in the table but face a significant defensive crisis, having conceded at least two goals in seven consecutive games across all competitions.

While Leverkusen has struggled on the road under Kasper Hjulmand, they remain heavy favorites after a dominant win over Werder Bremen and hold a six-game winning streak against Frankfurt.

Despite Frankfurt’s attacking threat, their 39 league goals are among the division’s best, and Bayer Leverkusen, a high-scoring team themselves, is expected to exploit their host's internal instability.

Though the visitors have fared poorly on the road recently, they will be facing a side in managerial turmoil and will be without suspended center back Loic Bade, adding further misery to a leaky defense.

Prediction: Frankfurt 1-2 Leverkusen

Stuttgart vs. Freiburg

Champions League hopefuls Stuttgart return to their MHP Arena, on Sunday to take on Freiburg, looking to leverage a formidable home record that has seen them win 12 of their previous 15 Bundesliga matches at home.

Currently sitting joint fourth in the table with 36 goals scored, Sebastian Hoeneß’s side must overcome a depleted roster featuring key absences, including Dan-Axel Zagadou and Angelo Stiller.

Despite these defensive hurdles, Stuttgart remains the statistical favorite against a seventh-place Freiburg team that has struggled for consistency on both sides of the pitch and failed to win in five of their last six away fixtures.

While the historical head-to-head record is perfectly balanced with three wins apiece over their last six meetings, Freiburg’s recent road woes, contrasted with Stuttgart’s impressive home form suggest the hosts are well-positioned to solidify their place in the standings.

Prediction: Stuttgart 3-1 Freiburg

Olympique Lyonnaise vs. LOSC Lille

Lyon looks to extend their flawless start to the year this Sunday at Groupama Stadium as they host a Lille side desperate to snap a domestic losing streak.

Currently sitting fourth in Ligue 1 with 36 points, six more than at this stage last season, Lyon has emerged victorious from four of their previous five meetings with Lille at home and is riding a nine-match winning run across all competitions.

While Lyon's attack is firing, led by Endrick's recent hat-trick, they face a depleted squad with Malick Fofana and Nicolas Tagliafico sidelined by ankle issues, and Ernest Nuamah out with a cruciate ligament tear.

Lille, despite failing to earn a league point so far in 2026, arrives bolstered by a midweek Europa League win over Freiburg and could play the role of spoiler if Bruno Genesio can stabilize a defense that has given up three or more goals in three of their previous four matches.

Prediction: Lyon 3-1 Lille

Strasbourg vs. Paris Saint-Germain

Picks, Previews, Predictions | Madrid, City, and PSG face bogey opposition in 10 must-watch games of the weekend

Paris Saint-Germain travels to Stade de la Meinau this Sunday aiming to defend their narrow two-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 against a revitalized Strasbourg side.

Under new manager Gary O’Neil, Le Racing has surged to seventh place following three consecutive victories where they outscored opponents by a staggering 12-3 margin.

While Luis Enrique’s men are on a five-match league winning streak and haven't lost a February fixture in three years, they must find their way around significant injuries to stars like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Lee Kang-in.

Strasbourg, featuring Joaquin Panichelli who is second only to Mason Greenwood in the Ligue 1 scoring charts, holds a psychological edge having taken points in three of their last four home meetings with the champions.

With Lens breathing down their necks and could have returned to the top if they beat Le Havre on Friday night, PSG will need to maintain their clinical away form to overcome a Strasbourg team currently in their most prolific scoring rhythm of the season.

Prediction: Strasbourg 1-2 PSG
