Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall | Eddie Nketiah celebrates his late winner against Liverpool

Another special weekend of action in the Premier League saw giants fall and minors continue to write their fairytales.

Crystal Palace won the Invincibles clash against Liverpool to remain the only side with an unbeaten record, while Arsenal finally got the better of Newcastle United after a long wait. Sunderland continued to dominate Forest with their first away win of the season.

As the trio of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United suffered Premier League defeats on the same day for the first time since the 16th of April 1994, we recap the weekend actions in the English top-flight, highlighting the highs and lows.

Premier League Round 6 Recap | All 9 Fixtures

Brentford returned Man United to default

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall | Igor Thiago brace against Manchester United

Brentford cruised to a 3-1 win over Manchester United in the early kickoff on Saturday to stop Ruben Amorim's charge and their quest for a first back-to-back win, with their third home win in four of the fixtures.

Igor Thiago gave the hosts a 2-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes from two avoidable goals, becoming the first player to score twice in the first 20 minutes of a Premier League game against the club since Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal in October 2015.

Benjamin Sesko pulled one back following a sequence of straight attempts four minutes before the half-hour, becoming the first Slovenian to score for Manchester United.

The visitors had the opportunity to level the score from the spot 14 minutes from time, after Nathan Collins was penalized for a foul on Bryan Mbeumo, but Bruno Fernandes saw his effort saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, with the former Liverpool goalkeeper diving to his left to thwart the penalty.

It was his second penalty miss in a matter of weeks, and there was no respite for United, as the hosts broke forward in the fifth minute of added time, and Mathias Jensen iced the cake with a stunning strike to seal a 3-1 win.

Leeds and Bournemouth shared the spoils

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall | Sean Longstaff celebrates with Joe Rondon.

Leeds United were looking to continue their good home run, where they had remained unbeaten and shut out all visiting teams in the Premier League this season.

However, there was no stopping Antoine Semenyo's free-kick four minutes from the half-hour mark, although they did restore parity through Joe Rodon, who headed home a corner kick from Sean Longstaff later in the half.

They completed a stunning comeback through the impressive Longstaff in the 54th minute, but Bournemouth would level the score through substitute Eli Junior Kroupi in the third minute of added time, as it finished all square at Elland Road.

Crystal Palace end their barren run and Liverpool's unbeaten run

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall

Crystal Palace earned their first home win over Liverpool in eleven years thanks to a spirited performance at Selhurst Park on Saturday, where they had to beat not just the Reds but also the officiating team to break the jinx.

The hosts took the lead through Ismaila Sarr, who had never lost whenever he scored against the Reds, making it five goals against them, with his third league goal of the season.

Palace continued to create more danger but could not add to their advantage until substitute Federico Chiesa restored parity for the defending champions with three minutes of normal time left on the clock, a controversial goal allowed to stand even though Mohamed Salah appeared to have handled the ball.

Liverpool hoped to turn up with another late winner as they had done in all their games so far this season, but it was Palace who took it all this time, as substitute Eddie Nketiah scored in the seventh minute of added time to end Liverpool's unbeaten run.

Oliver Glasner's side remains the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season and extended their streak to 18, equaling the longest in their history, while the 12 games that have come in the Premier League are also a club record.

New height for Erling Haaland in customary win over Burnley

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall: Erling Haaland celebrates against Burnley

Erling Haaland scored his 92nd and 93rd Premier League goals to go two ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the highest-scoring Norwegian in Premier League history, as Manchester City earned what has become a certain win against Burnley.

Under Pep Guardiola, Man City had never lost a game to The Clarets, winning 17 and drawing just one in their 18 meetings ahead of Saturday's kickoff, but they needed help to break the deadlock as Maxime Esteve beat his own goalkeeper.

Burnley responded through Jaidon Anthony before halftime, but City retook the lead with a brilliant shot from Matheus Nunes just after the hour mark, while Esteve's horrendous afternoon got worse as he scored another own goal four minutes later to help extend the hosts' lead.

He became the sixth player to score two own goals in a single Premier League game. But his afternoon didn’t get any better, as he made another error for Erling Haaland to complete his brace and seal a 5-1 win in the closing stages of the match.

By scoring the first of his brace, Haaland overtook Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and became Norway's all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League with 92 goals, and finished the game with 93.

Brighton continued its winning run against unlovely Chelsea

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall: Danny Welbeck bagged a brace against Chelsea

Chelsea looked set to mark their return to winning ways after Enzo Fernandez's header gave them the lead in a dominant first-half display against Brighton, who had won just once at Stamford Bridge in their history.

However, the story changed after they were reduced to 10 men at the start of the second half, after a poor back pass from Andrey Santos forced Trevor Chalobah into a tackle that got him sent off for denial of a goalscoring opportunity.

Momentum shifted, and Brighton started to dictate the game, eventually winning 3-1 thanks to Maxim De Cuyper’s header between Danny Welbeck's brace, sealing their first away win of the Premier League season in style.

Sunderland earned its first away win at Forest

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall: Omar Alderete celebrates against Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest and Sunderland clashed in the top flight for only the third time in the Premier League era after their first in 1996-97, and it was The Black Cats who came out on top as they did almost three decades ago.

The only goal came in the 38th minute through Omar Alderete, who beat the hosts' offside trap to head home Granit Xhaka's free-kick for his first Premier League goal.

Wolves earned their first point against the Spurs

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall: Wolves earn their first point against Spues

A shocking result on Saturday night as Wolves, who had lost all Premier League games so far, took the game to their hosts, Tottenham Hotspur, and ended up winning their first point of the season, although they could have taken it all.

Still searching for his first Spurs goal, Mohammed Kudus had the ball in the back of the net just before the half-hour but was immediately flagged offside by the assistant referee.

The visitors took the lead early in the second half as Spurs failed to clear their lines following a corner, and the ball fell to Santiago Bueno, who tapped it home from close range for his first-ever goal for Wolves.

Vitor Pereira's side went on to carve more decent goalscoring opportunities but were unable to add to their lead until Spurs found their equalizer through Joao Palhinha in the penultimate minute of the five added at the end of 90 minutes.

It finished all square, and Wolves, who ended a run of five consecutive losses in the league, extended their unbeaten run in this fixture to six, an unusual streak against a top-six club in the division.

First win for Aston Villa as Fulham streak continues

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall: Emiliano Buendia celebrates his first Premier League goal since March 2023

Aston Villa secured their first Premier League win of the season after coming from a goal down to beat Fulham in a fixture they have now won for the seventh time on the bounce.

It first appeared that the hosts would have to wait for another day to claim their first league win after Raul Jimenez fired the visitors in front inside the opening three minutes, but fortune started to smile on Villa as the Mexican striker was taken off due to injury in the eleventh minute.

Ollie Watkins then made up for his penalty miss against Bologna in the Europa League on Thursday with a flick over Bernd Leno for his first goal in eleven games across all competitions, ending his longest goal drought in seven years, to restore parity in the 37th minute.

Half-time substitute Emiliano Buendia inspired the completion of the comeback very early after the restart, setting up captain John McGinn for the go-ahead goal and helping to establish a cushion with his first league goal since March 2023, all inside the first six minutes of the second half, and it was enough for a 3-1 win.

A lucky but deserved rare win for Arsenal at Newcastle

Premier League Round 6 Recap | Palace, Arsenal, and Sunderland Rise, Giants Fall: Arsenal celebrates Gabriel's late winner at Newcastle United

Mikel Arteta finally unlocked St James’ Park after three consecutive heartbreaks as Arsenal came from behind to score two late goals and earn their first win at Newcastle since March 2023.

Ahead of kickoff, Newcastle United were looking for their fourth straight home win over Arsenal, which would have made it five times they had beaten the visitors at home under Arteta, becoming the side with the most home wins over the club across all competitions since the Spaniard took over, level with Man City.

Despite Arsenal's dominance, it was Newcastle who took the lead through Nick Woltemade, who became the sixth player to score in their first two Premier League home games for the club, and the first since Moussa Sissoko in 2013.

Arsenal continued to dominate and were rewarded in the 84th minute, as substitute Mikel Merino headed home Declan Rice's cross to level matters, while Gabriel headed home Martin Ødegaard's corner in the 96th minute to seal all three points.

Summary of the Premier League standings

Liverpool continues to lead the way, but their five-point gap has been reduced to two by second-placed Arsenal, while Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, and Bournemouth complete the top six.
