Let it all work out | Eze's theme, not Spurs'

After failing in the bid to sign the English midfielder during the summer, Thomas Frank tried to brush aside the significance of Eberechi Eze in his pre-match presser for the North London derby, only to be humbled by the star.

Eberechi Eze finally got that big performance he has been looking for, and what better way to achieve it than on his chosen occasion, where he became the first-ever North London derby hat-trick scorer in the Premier League era.

Spurs, who had not lost an away game in the Premier League this season, were always standing on thin ice against the big six, except maybe the Manchester clubs, and a hungry Arsenal team broke no sweat in dismantling them in the derby.

For the first time since the 1980s, one team has won four consecutive North London derby games, and it wouldn't be anyone but Arsenal, who won six consecutive in this fixture in the time of reference.

But it was more of a personal duel between Eberechi Eze and Tottenham Hotspur, because of a summer transfer saga, that left the Lilly Whites with no love lost for the player, who could have ended up on their roster, before making that late U-turn.

Time has proven the 27-year-old right, and for Spurs, they couldn't be any wrong in their decision to pursue Xavi Simons, who has so far failed to meet expectations, and is high on the list of the worst signings of the summer.

Let it all work out

So far so good for Eberechi Eze, not Spurs.

The let it all work out theme that Arsenal used after luring Eberechi Eze back to the club in the summer was much more than his own signing, it was because of the summer business they had overall.

Arsenal secured the services of top players like Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Piero Hincapie, Cristhian Mosquera, and Kepa Arrizabalaga before ending what was already remarkable with Eze.

However, Spurs, out of spite, used the same phrase to announce the signing of Dutch talent Xavi Simons in a €60 million deal, with the fans almost unanimously agreeing that they have landed the better deal.

On derby day, Eberechi Eze ran the show and showed Spurs what they were denied, scoring a hat-trick to help his boyhood club blow away their rivals, who had not won a Premier League game in the Emirates since 2010.

The game opened up for the dominant host after Leandro Trossard's opener six minutes after the half-hour, and Eze capitalized to make the game his own, scoring from the edge of the box five minutes later to make it 2-0 Arsenal.

Thomas Frank made a bold move to shuffle things up in a bid to get his team on the ball, taking off Kevin Danso and introducing Xavi Simons, who went on to fold at the sight of Eberechi Eze's brilliance.

Eze scored his second of the evening 36 seconds after the restart, a similar strike to the one he scored in the first half, but this time with his weaker left foot, following a pass from Jurrien Timber on the edge of the box.

He completed his hat-trick to finally break the spirits of Spurs, who were starting to build momentum after Richarlison's wonderful long-range strike following an error from Martin Zubimendi, with David Raya already off his goal.

Eze, whose only Premier League goal for Arsenal before kickoff was against his former employer Crystal Palace, received the ball on the edge of the box from Leandro Trossard, and powered his shot past Vicario at the near post.

He became only the fourth player to score a North London derby hat-trick after Ted Drake (Arsenal, October 1934), Terry Dyson (Spurs, August 1961), and Alan Sunderland (Arsenal, December 1978).

His was also the 400th hat-trick in Premier League history, and the 23rd Arsenal player to bag a treble in the competition, with no side having more different hat-trick scorers in the competition.

Eberechi Eze has also been crowned the official Premier League player of the week, and will look to add to his Arsenal highlights as the season progresses, with a Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich up next, where he'll face former teammate, Michael Olise.

For Spurs, an unbeaten record in the Champions League under Thomas Frank is under threat as they visit Parc des Princes to face European champions, PSG on Wednesday night.

As per the North London rivals' 'let it all work out' competition, there is no doubt just one side is winning at the moment, and it isn't Spurs.
