Emirates FA Cup; What awaits assembled heavyweights as fifth round opponents are revealed

Premier League top guns made their way into the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup during the weekend with impressive wins as they continue to explore every possible means to end the trophy with silverware.
Chelsea kicked off the round on Friday night away at Hull City, as Liam Rosenior returned to the club where he served as a player for six seasons and coached for 18 months before moving to Chelsea's sister club, Strasbourg.
Pedro Neto was the star of the night as his hat-trick helped blow away the host in the second-half, after a resilient first-half saw the visitors head into the halftime break with just one goal advantage, with the goal coming four minutes from time.
Estevao Willian was also on target in the game, while striker Liam Delap registered a hat-trick of assists to help Chelsea return to winning ways, and reach the fifth round as they look for their first FA Cup title since 2018.
Manchester City were in action on Saturday but had a difficult time forcing League Two side Salford City into submission at the Etihad, but an early own goal from young defender Alfie Dorrington and a late Marc Guehi goal secured their progression.
Newcastle United deservedly secured their place in the fifth round following a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in a match that may have the FA rethinking the use of VAR for the early rounds of the competition in the future.
Despite their win, Newcastle were clearly cheated as Aston Villa got away with several disastrous refereeing decisions, which should have included a red card to Lucas Digne and a penalty to Newcastle in different scenes, but the decisions were all gotten wrong.
Although the host took the lead through Tammy Abraham, a goal that shouldn't have counted, Newcastle responded with three second-half goals with Sandro Tonali's brace completing a comeback before Nick Woltemade ensured there's no way back for Villa.
Liverpool made a much more difficult job look pretty easy as they blew away fellow top-flight opposition Brighton at Anfield thanks to another brilliant display by their Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Curtis Jones gave them a first-half lead while Szoboszlai and a late Mohamed Salah's penalty ensured a 3-0 victory, as the Reds stay on course in their most realistic competition to win silverware this season.

On Sunday, Arsenal played host to Wigan Athletic looking to put behind their midweek disappointment against Brentford as they failed to re-establish their six-point lead at the Premier League summit in a 1-1 draw.
They ended up becoming the first club to score four goals in the opening 30 minutes of an Emirates FA Cup game as Noni Madueke, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus, all found the back of the net, while Jack Hunt also diverted one into his own net.
Eberechi Eze assisted two of the goals with brilliant through passes, but there was a complication for Mikel Arteta's team, who lost Riccardo Calafiori to an injury during the warm-ups, while Ben White was also withdrawn as a precaution.
Mansfield Town secured a massive victory away to Premier League side Burnley to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the first time since 1975, after second-half goals from Rhys Oates and Louis Reed helped overcome Josh Laurent's first-half goal.
Josh Windass scored the only goal as Wrexham edged Ipswich Town to reach the fifth round in an all-Championship affair in Wales, while Santiago Bueno netted the only goal in muddy Grimsby to give Wolves the win.
Crysencio Summerville and Habib Diara scored the lone goals for 10-man West Ham United and Sunderland as they both conquered Burton and Oxford City respectively away from home.
Kevin and Harrison Reed struck in the second half to prevent Fulham's embarrassment at Stoke City, after the hosts took a shock lead inside the opening 20 minutes, while substitute James Bree struck in extra time to help Southampton beat Leicester City for the second time in a week.
Patrick Roberts' strike for Birmingham City just before added time to force extra time against Leeds United, who had taken the lead early in the second half through Felix Nmecha, but it was the Premier League club that reached the fifth round after winning a penalty shootout 4-2.
In another all-Championship affair, Norwich City scored two late goals to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 in what was a close contest that was all square heading into the final 10 minutes at Carrow Road.
The two fixtures to be played, Premier League side Brentford travel to Macclesfield FC, home of the history maker who eliminated defending champions Crystal Palace in the previous round, while Port Vale play host to Bristol City in 15 days.
Fifth round draws and schedule
Arsenal has been handed a favourable draw but will have to travel to Nottinghamshire to take on Mansfield Town, who will be making their first appearance in the fifth round since 1975 while Chelsea will also travel to Championship side Wrexham.

Manchester City have been handed a tough fixture against Newcastle United, whom they'll face for the fifth time this season having both clashed in the Carabao Cup semi-final doubleheader.
Liverpool will also be playing a fellow Premier League club but one which they will be much favoured even away from home when they play at Wolves' Molineux, and West Ham are also scheduled for a possible all top-flight matchup if Brentford beat Macclesfield FC.
Leeds United will host Norwich City, Southampton will travel to Premier League boys Fulham, while Sunderland awaits the winner of Port Vale versus Bristol to determine their fifth round opponent in what is already a kind draw.
When will the fifth round be played?
The fifth round games, which is the equivalent of the round of 16 will be played over the weekend of the seventh and eighth March 2026.
Fixtures to watch?
Newcastle United against Manchester City stands out, but it'll also be interesting to see how Norwich United fare against Leeds United, as well as Macclesfield FC, if they manage to go past Brentford in tonight's game.
