  Hassan Afolabi November 3, 2025

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Nine Premier League matches took place over the weekend as the top teams recorded satisfying results to make up for recent slumps, while a few others failed to maintain their momentum.

From Arsenal's trademark showing to Chelsea's extended dominance of Spurs in the derby, we take a review of the highlights of the nine Premier League games between Saturday and Sunday.

Premier League review: Top teams rekindle title charge

1. Arsenal made it nine wins on the bounce at Burnley

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Arsenal continued their impressive run during the weekend as they extended their winning run to nine across all competitions, five of which have come in the Premier League as they extended their gap-lead.

First-half headers from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice undo their host, who, just like many of Arsenal's opponents in recent games, failed to register a single shot on target for the entire duration of the game.

Viktor Gyokeres opened the scoring in the 14th minute with his first league goal since September, heading home from close range after Declan Rice's corner was directed back across the goal by Gabriel Magalhaes, who picked up another assist.

Declan Rice doubled the advantage five minutes after the half-hour, heading home Leandro Trossard's cross following a fast break to put the league leaders in a comfortable position.

It was another game where Mikel Arteta's charge didn't get into their stride but they did enough to secure the win and come away with their trademark clean sheet. It has now been 686 minutes since they last conceded a goal.

2. Man United's winning run ended at Forest

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Manchester United's three-game Premier League winning run was brought to a halt on Saturday evening at the City Ground, as the host ended a run of four consecutive league defeats in a 2-2 draw.

For the second game running, Sean Dyche's team conceded wrongfully awarded corners, and both ended in goals for their opponent as Casemiro headed the visitors in front from Bruno Fernandes's corner four minutes after the half-hour.

However, Forest came out for the second half with intent, and scored twice in the first five minutes after the restart through Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona to turn the game around.

Manchester United scored a late leveler through Amad Diallo to rescue a point as it finished all square in Nottinghamshire, with Forest picking up their first point under Dyche, while United equaled their longest unbeaten run under Ruben Amorim.

3. Chelsea schooled clueless Spurs in the derby

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Not for the first time, Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur to mark its return to winning ways after a disappointing home loss to Sunderland in the previous Matchday.

Tottenham, as a result, equaled their worst home start to a league season with just four points from their opening five home games, a number only West Ham United and Wolves can not better so far.

The decisive moment of the game came four minutes after the half-hour mark, as a sloppy play on the edge of their own box saw Moises Caicedo dispossess Micky Van de Ven, who set up Joao Pedro, who finally ended his 10-game goal drought.

Chelsea came close on several occasions but could not add to their advantage, which was in the end enough for all three points against Thomas Frank's side, who couldn't ask enough questions to truly threaten the visitors.

4. West Ham won first home game since February

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

After 248 days of waiting, West Ham United finally ended a run of nine winless home games in the Premier League on Sunday, after coming from a goal down to beat Newcastle United in London.

Newcastle, who were on a poor away run themselves, having failed to win any of their previous seven in the Premier League, took a fourth-minute lead through Jacob Murphy, but that was canceled out by a sensational strike from Lucas Paqueta after the half hour.

Sven Botman's unfortunate own goal helped complete the comeback before the interval, and substitute Tomas Soucek scored deep into injury time to ensure the safety of the points.

It's their first victory under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who was winless in his first four games, losing each of the last three. His team moved three points within 17th in the standings.

5. Crystal Palace build on Liverpool with a derby win over Brentford

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Jean-Phillip Mateta's first-half strike and Nathan Collins' second-half own goal gave Crystal Palace the win that saw them return to winning ways in the league after back-to-back losses.

Oliver Glasner's side headed into the game on the back of an impressive 3-0 Carabao Cup fourth round win over Liverpool in Anfield on Wednesday, and were keen to turn their fortunes around in a fixture they lost in both legs last season.

French striker Jean-Phillip Mateta headed them in front from Jefferson Lerma's cross on the half hour, and the lead was doubled six minutes after the restart, as Brentford captain, Nathan Collins beat his own goalkeeper, following a Lerma long throw.

6. Liverpool shut critics in Villa win

After suffering seven losses in eight games, the atmosphere at Liverpool was very intense and there have been a lot of negative comments about the club, but they delivered a huge response to blow Aston Villa away on Saturday evening.

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch gave Arne Slot's charge a much-needed win against Unai Emery's Aston Villa, who were on a run of five consecutive league wins heading into the fixture.

The visitors struck the woodwork twice before Liverpool took the lead as halftime approached. A poor pass from Emiliano Martinez ended up with Salah, and the winger fired it home quickly for his 250th goal involvement for the Reds.

Ryan Gravenberch added a second on his injury return to seal a first league win since a 2-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton in September.

7. Erling Haaland powered Man City to win, again

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Erling Haaland bagged a brace as Manchester City inflicted a second league defeat on Bournemouth with a 3-1 scoreline in the Etihad on Sunday evening.

The visitors were second on the Premier League standings ahead of kickoff and with the longest active unbeaten run in the competition, having gone eight games without losing since their opening day loss at Anfield.

They fell behind to Erling Haaland's opener in the 17th minute, but Tyler Adams' first league goal since January 2021 drew them level eight minutes later.

However, the relentless Norwegian fired City in front again three minutes after the half-hour, and the victory was sealed on the hour mark through youngster Nico O'Reilly, who was assisted by Phil Foden on his 200th Premier League appearance.

8. Brighton onboard pressure on Leeds United

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Brighton return to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Leeds United on Saturday, a result that sends the Premier League newcomers down the table, and now finds themselves within touching distance of the drop zone.

After losing to Manchester United and Arsenal, the latter of which saw them exit the Carabao Cup in the fourth round, the Seagulls headed into a favourable fixture, which they haven't lost since returning to the top flight in 2020.

Danny Welbeck continued his rich form and scored to give them the lead after 11 minutes, firing home from Mats Wiefer's cutback for his sixth goal in five Premier League games.

The visitors stood their ground for the remainder of the half, but their resolve was shattered by Diego Gomes's second-half brace, scored six minutes apart, starting four minutes after the hour mark as the host won 3-0.

9. Fulham pulled Vitor Pereira out of Wolves' misery

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

After four consecutive Premier League losses, Fulham returned to winning ways by thrashing Wolves 3-0, a result that influenced the decision of the Wolves management to terminate the contract of their Portuguese manager.

Ryan Sessegnon and Harry Wilson had those two goals ahead before substitute Yerson Mosquera scored an own goal 15 minutes from time, as it finished 3-0 in Craven Cottage on Saturday evening.

Premier League standings update

A weekend of revived title dreams in the Premier League saw Arsenal stretch their lead, Manchester City and Liverpool re-ignite momentum, Chelsea outclass Spurs, and West Ham finally end their home drought in a dramatic round of nine fixtures.

Arsenal extended their lead at the summit to six points as Manchester City replaced Bournemouth in second place, while Liverpool assumed third spot on goal difference.

Tottenham dropped to fifth after the derby loss, on the same points as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Sunderland, who play host to Everton later on Monday.

Crystal Palace and Brighton complete the top ten after winning their respective games while Aston Villa and Brentford drop down to the bottom half, with Newcastle United also missing the chance to climb up.

Fulham steered clear of the relegation zone as they moved up to 14th, although level on points with 16th, while West Ham United switched places with Nottingham Forest in a rather unchanged bottom three, with Wolves maintaining 20th.
