Actions resume in Europe this weekend as clubs continue to build the narrative of their season with the first quarter coming to an end, and things already taking shape at various ends of the league standings, while the domestic Cups are also selecting their finalists.

A lot of mouthwatering fixtures await in the top five leagues this weekend, and the complexity of it has limited our picks around these leagues alone. Below are the top 10 fixtures to watch out for in the coming days.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea

Neither team would be pleased with their start to the season, especially given the chances they've bottled that could have positioned them better across all competitions, but what matters is their current status, and that still gives mixed feelings heading into Saturday.

Spurs play host to Chelsea in the London derby on Sunday on the back of a Cup exit on Wednesday, while their opponent, despite securing a place in the next round, lost at home to Sunderland last time out in the league, and dropped to ninth in the standings.

Thomas Frank's time at Spurs was questionable before last weekend, but after beating Everton 2-0 away from home and moving up to third place, fans had few complaints, but must be concerned after their Cup exit at Newcastle.

Beating Chelsea on Saturday will be the perfect way to respond, but their home form in the league has been shambolic. Despite earning four more points than anyone on the road, only the teams in the relegation zone have earned fewer than their four points at home.

Chelsea would be looking to benefit from this weakness before their rivals get their houses in order, having won half of their points away, and only losing at Manchester United, where they played almost the entire game with 10 men.

The Blues have also enjoyed recent matchups against Spurs, with 13 wins and four draws in their last 18 meetings, but concerns lie in defence for Enzo Maresca, as Chelsea have kept one clean sheet in their last seven domestic games, conceding four goals in their last two.

Both teams, especially Spurs, have a long list of injuries, but definitely have the quality to make the match an interesting one for fans, especially the neutrals.

Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Kasper Hjulmand takes his side to the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening to face the runaway leaders, who have set a new record for the best start to a season by a Bundesliga club in history, surpassing Dortmund in 2016-17.

Vincent Kompany couldn't be happier as his team have won all their games this season despite the injury crisis at the start, and after overcoming Dortmund a few weeks ago to extend their lead, he would not want to relinquish their advantage, especially at home to a top team.

Despite their impressive turnaround under Hjulmand, their 7-2 humiliating loss at home to PSG in the Champions League highlights their vulnerabilities, and Bayern, who have been dominant against any German team, can make them relive that outcome.

Leverkusen's long list of injuries wouldn't help either, in the quest to continue their competitive ground, which they established recently under former boss Xabi Alonso, against the powerhouse of German football.

AC Milan vs. AS Roma

After back-to-back draws, AC Milan slipped from first place to fourth in the Serie A, and in that time, AS Roma won back-to-back games and are now joint first alongside Napoli, with Milan trailing by three points.

This is a real test for the Rossoneri's title credentials as defeat would not only widen the distance from first place but also see them potentially drop out of European places altogether, if the likes of Como, Bologna, and Juventus win.

Gian Pierro Gasperini will be satisfied with his start to life in Rome, especially with their status as league leaders, but keeping that position could be demanding, especially at this stage of the campaign, when just a defeat could completely change the look of things.

Their away form has been remarkable. By far the best in the league. Four wins from four, but the trip to San Siro will be their toughest, and the former Atalanta boss will be glad to see his team up to the challenge.

Milan has struggled since the injury to Christian Pulisic, but that isn't the only cause for alarm. Their defensive performances have left a lot to be desired lately. The last time they played at home, they conceded twice in a 2-2 draw with newly promoted Pisa.

With six wins, five draws, and four defeats in their last 15 home meetings with Roma in the Serie A, there is enough indication that Sunday's clash is another one that could go either way.

RB Leipzig vs. VfB Stuttgart 

Two teams with similar narratives and a similar start to the season, second-place RB Leipzig play host to third-place Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday as both teams look to close the gap on Bayern Munich before the champions play later in the day.

Since losing 6-0 to the Bavarians on opening weekend, Leipzig have been the second-best team in the league, with only Vincent Kompany's side picking up more than their 19 points, six wins and one draw in seven games.

What started like a joke for a season after missing out on Europe last season, is now looking like their best ever season in the topflight, and even if Stuttgart is a formidable opponent, playing at home boosts the chances of Ole Werner extending their unbeaten run.

All four of Stuttgart's losses this season have come away from home, two in the Bundesliga against Freiburg and Union Berlin, which does make them likely to succumb to another loss away to their host, who have only dropped points away to Bayern and Dortmund.

Leipzig have lost all of their last four meetings with Stuttgart, three of which were last season, but the current team looks like the one that went 11 games unbeaten prior to this poor run in the fixture, winning nine since their first top-flight meeting in 2017-18.

Napoli vs. Como

Cesc Fabregas's Como have established themselves as one of the many teams to watch out for in the Serie A, and have proven themselves capable of upsetting the odds with wins against Juventus, Lazio, and Fiorentina already this season.

Napoli look capable of defending their Scudetto even with their injury woes, but the world will be eager to see how they cope with the recent loss of Belgium playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who suffered an injury in the win over Inter last weekend.

The league leaders have, two losses so far, one more than the visitors, who are on 16 points in fifth place, and have two defeats in their last 20 games across all competitions, a run that kicked off at the end of March.

Napoli won this fixture 3-1 last season but lost the reverse in Giuseppe Sinigaglia, which makes it an interesting matchup, one that will garner a lot of attention in the Serie A this weekend.

Real Sociedad, vs. Athletic Club 

The unpredictability of several games in LaLiga has seen Athletic Club's promising start to the season after picking up just five points from their last seven games, when they had won all three from the opening weekend.

Getting back on their feet will not be easy as this weekend they travel to San Sebastian to face fellow strugglers Real Sociedad, whose recent form is more impressive with an unbeaten record in their last four games, with three wins.

Sociedad is just a place above the drop zone, which is a joke for a club that was on its way to establishing a consistent status in the top seven, but the loss of manager Imanol Alguacil and midfielder Martin Zubimendi in the summer is taking its toll.

Although they are winless in their last three meetings with Saturday's opponents, Real Sociedad haven't lost to Bilbao in their last eight meetings at home, winning five, since a 2-0 defeat in March 2017.

That is an impressive record to take into a clash, where a stalemate will be synonymous with defeat for both teams, but Athletic Club will also be desperate for a positive result to ease the pressure on manager, Ernesto Valverde.

Atlético Madrid vs. Sevilla

Sevilla might have lost the swagger that made them one of the top teams in LaLiga, but their recent win over Barcelona showed what they can do when up against top teams, and Atlético Madrid should be wary ahead of their clash on Saturday.

Diego Simeone's side will be at home, where they have won all of their last five games while the visitors also boast an impressive away record with four victories from their last five across all competitions.

The two teams have enjoyed diverse fortunes so far in the LaLiga season, especially defensively, where Diego Simeone's side has one of the best records, while Sevilla's comes off as one of the least impressive.

Nevertheless, for a side that managed to avoid relegation last season, Sevilla will take pride in their start to the season so far, and the thought of possibly landing a place in the top six of results elsewhere going their way.

Sevilla has lost nine and drawn seven away to Atlético in the league since their 1-0 victory on 28th September 2008, while the host, who have won each of the last three, will be keen to extend their dominance, especially with Sevilla missing Alexis Sanchez, and possibly Lucien Agoume.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa 

One of the most in-form teams meets the team on the worst run currently and ironically, the latter is not Aston Villa, who had their worst ever start to the season, but Liverpool, who had the best lead after five games in Premier League history.

Having lost six of their last seven games across all competitions and five consecutively domestically, defeding champions Liverpool play host to Aston Villa on Sunday in a mouthwatering clash.

Villa, with four wins and one draw in their last five league games have put behind their poor start, and this is the joint best run for any club in thatt time. The odds of that continuing against Liverpool is not farfetched, especially if the Reds fail to tople their recent showings.

Aston Villa's last away win at Liverpool in the Premier League was back in September 2014, and they might not get a better chance to end a run of seven winless in Anfield (six losses) than the one that awaits in the late night kickoff on Saturday.

Whether home or away, Liverpool have not lost to Aston Villa since the humiliating 7-2 scoreline in the Villa Park on the 4th of October 2020, and with fourth year anniversary not far away, Liverpool have real cause to worry, and Arne Slot will be aware.

Manchester City vs. Bournemouth 

If The Cherries come out on top in the final kickoff of the weekend in the Etihad on Sunday evening, then there is not reason not to consider them a title contender, even so that they would be five points ahead of the Cityzens.

Liverpool, on opening day, remains the only team to have beaten Andoni Iraola's charge so far in the league, and the fact that they would go five points clear of Pep Guardiola's charge with a victory could see them emerge as real threat.

Currently second place, Bournemouth do not have a positive record against City, with 17 defeats and just one win in their 18 matchups. The only positive takeaway is that the victory came last season.

Manchester City looked like they had their messes sorted before losing to Aston Villa last weekend, and their return to winning ways in the Carabao Cup against Swansea City was not convincing. They will surely need more to beat an inspired Bournemouth on Sunday.

The match will be decisive for City, as they could be nine points behind Arsenal should Mikel Arteta's Burnleybeat Burnely on Saturday, and that realization alone is enough for the host, although it's a shared sentiment for the visitors.

An impressive scoring run ended for Erling Haaland last weekend and if there's a team that can keep the Norwegian at bay, it is Bournemouth, against whom he has just one goal in six meetings.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. OGC Nice 

The champions were en route to seal the title without a loss last season until they were beaten at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 31, by Saturday's visitors, OGC Nice.

With a draw in their first clash earlier in the season, PSG failed to beat Nice in any of their two meetings last season, after winning four of their last five clashes.

Nice are unbeaten in their last five Ligue 1 games, winning the last three, which makes them the most in-form side in the competition, and a worthy opponent for Luis Enrique's team.
