5 New Players Set to Join Xabi Alonso at Chelsea

Xabi Alonso is set to begin his time as the new Chelsea manager immediately after the current season concludes and the Blues have already lined up some exciting talents to join the ranks under their new manager.

The West Londoners have a lot of talents on loan across Europe and beyond due to the BlueCo strategy to pick up the best youngsters around the world, and nurture them into superstars to either star for the first team or be sold for optimum profit.

On the back of a disappointing season that saw them part ways with promising coach Enzo Maresca and appoint only to again fire Liam Rosenior, the Premier League club look set to embark on a different direction under Xabi Alonso.

The former Liverpool midfielder was announced as the club's first manager since Antonio Conte in 2016, as the club finally embraced a reality they tried to avoid a few months back, which fractured the relationship with Club World Cup-winning coach, Maresca.

As he prepares to get his time underway at Chelsea, Xabi Alonso will have the time and the availability of some of the most significant players to the project due to the rather surprising omission from their country's World Cup squads.

However, the likes of Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro will be joined by some other exciting talents that Chelsea have lined up for the summer, many of whom already signed long-term contracts with the club but are serving on loan elsewhere.

From Kendry Paez to Emanuel Emegha, we take a look at five players worthy of recognition set to join Xabi Alonso's Chelsea in the coming weeks.

1. Geovany Quenda

Given how Chelsea's season went, Geovany Quenda is the most exciting star to anticipate among the five, because he is a winger who will bring a completely different dimension to the Chelsea attack.

Signed for the club in a £40 million deal from Sporting CP in March 2025, Quenda stayed at the Portuguese club to continue his development and get more first-team exposure before moving to England with plans to integrate him upon arrival.

Despite the millions spent on the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Jaime Gittens to improve threats from the flanks last summer, it hasn't really worked out, while Estevao Willian struggled for consistency in his first year aboard.

Under both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, Chelsea's wingers constantly let them down in attack, and this made Pedro Neto the only reliable outlet, while Garnacho's only highlights came in domestic Cup games.

With Quenda, Chelsea has a proper winger who could take on his man, open up spaces, and create chances for his teammates to score. His pace makes him deadly on the counter and even though still young, he is experienced and is closing on a century of first-team games.

He has consistently featured for the club in domestic competitions and the Champions League, while he'll also arrive at Chelsea having won a couple of silverware with the Portuguese giants.

2. Valentin Barco

Not that the club is particularly lacking in this department but with the uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernandez's future at the club, Valentin Barco could just become the saving grace for Xabi Alonso.

Signed from their sister club Strasbourg, the Argentine has really impressed since joining the BlueCo project for the second part of the 2024-25 season from Brighton, before the move was sealed permanently in the summer.

Barco is a versatile midfielder who can operate perfectly across all three midfield positions due to his incredible athleticism and ability on the ball, a trait that made him one of the standout midfielders in the concluded Ligue 1 and Conference League seasons.

As Xabi Alonso favours playing a midfield pivot, alongside Moises Caicedo, Barco will form an effective pair that balances play for Chelsea, and that highlights the reasons for paying around €50 million to bring him back to England.

3. Dastan Satpaev

One of the players not expected to become part of the project this early but Xabi Alonso will be left to make the best decision on the future of Dastan Satpaev as far as his association with Chelsea is concerned.

The highly-rated Kazakh wonderkid represents a landmark moment for Kazakh football when his move from Kairat Almaty was confirmed in February 2025 following a successful trial at Cobham in late 2024.

Satpaev, who has remained with Kairat since that period, fits right into the Blues’ ongoing strategy of securing the globe's finest teenage talent, and will only join the club officially this summer.

The deal saw Satpaev become the most expensive export in the country's football history at €4 million including further add-ons, and the attacker has gone on to set some milestones in the Champions League, where he isn't just the youngest, but the first-ever Kazakhstani to score in the competition.

Dubbed Baby Agüero by fans and drawing comparisons to Kylian Mbappé in domestic media, Satpaev is technically gifted with both feet, incredibly quick, and agile. He could one day become one of the pillars at Chelsea, but not so soon.

Loan move is on the cards for the youngster, and the destination could be Ligue 1 to join sister club Strasbourg, who have lately become the grooming ground for the club's biggest talents.

4. Emanuel Emegha

The striker situation at Chelsea is not one of the most exciting at the moment, and even though the form of Joao Pedro has been astonishing, there isn't a reliable option to relieve him of the goalscoring burden.

Emanuel Emegha could be the beneficiary of that under Xabi Alonso, especially as he will have the opportunity to impress in preseason before Nicolas Jackson, who spent the season on loan at Bayern Munich, returns from the World Cup with Senegal.

Chelsea confirmed that Emegha will arrive this summer as the club's new striker from Strasbourg back in September 2025, after an impressive second season with the Ligue 1 club, where he scored 14 and assisted three times in 29 games.

He is a different striker compared to the other available options at Chelsea, especially with Liam Delap failing to justify his signing. Emegha could be the perfect backup for Joao Pedro, and at 23, he is the perfect age-wise, too.

5. Kendry Paez

If Kendry Paez returns from his loan deal to River Plate this summer, it wouldn't be in the best interest of Chelsea, and he wouldn't be a player Xabi Alonso looks forward to working with at this time.

Recent reports have confirmed that the Argentine club is threatening to terminate the loan deal six months before the time due to the lack of commitment shown by the Ecuadorian, who has one goal in 14 games so far.

However, given his talent, should Paez return to Chelsea this summer, he will have the opportunity to win over Xabi Alonso before the end of the transfer window, and maybe the manager will be convinced to let him stay.

Paez will also be one of the stars of Ecuador at the World Cup this summer, another opportunity to star at the biggest stage in the game, and if successful, he wouldn't just earn a Chelsea stay, but would be considered one of their most reliable playmakers.
