  Hassan Afolabi January 27, 2025

After the thrilling fixtures in the UEFA Champions League during the week, top clubs return to action in their respective domestic leagues, and as usual, we have picked the five best players, one from each league, who have proven themselves above the others in action and numbers.

From Burkinabe's first-ever hat-trick Goalscorer in Premier League history to the finally awaken Kylian Mbappé, here are the fabulous five for the past weekend.

Stars of the Weekend in Top Five Leagues

Premier League: Dango Outtara of Bournemouth

The Cherries continued their impeccable run with a resounding 5-0 victory over a top opposition in Nottingham Forest, extending their unbeaten run across all competitions to 12.

Andoni Iraola's charge were led by the inspired Dango Outtarra, who scored a decisive second half hat-trick to blow away the opposition, solidifying the reputation the team is building this season.

The Burkinabe forward scored his first of the day five minutes before the hour mark, rising highest to head home a Justin Kluivert cross from close range to make double the host's lead.

Six minutes later, he got his second with a beautiful play and finish. The 22-year old showed great strength and composure to keep hold of the ball before slotting a low shot past Sels for 3-0.

He completed his hat-trick late on, benefiting from an awful goalkeeping from Sels, who could only fumble Marcus Tavernier's shot into his path to slam home for the fourth goal of the match.

With his third of the day, Dango Outtara became the first ever Burkina Faso player to score a Premier League hat-trick in history, while Antoine Semenyo added a fifth to complete the rout in added time.

Outtara now has six Premier League goals, equaling his highest scoring league season, while he has been directly involved in a total of 12 goals so far, already one more than his previous most productive season.

His showing helped The Cherries secured a vital three point, which moved them a place off top four, and eight points off their entire tally of last season after just 23 games.

For a player who had just two goals in his first 18 months with Bournemouth, Outtara is really having a pub this season, and his performance during the weekend has seen him beat his compatriots to our nomination as the best Premier League player of the week.

LaLiga: Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid

Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of LaLiga summit to four after Atlético Madrid's failure to win during the weekend – Kylian Mbappé bagged his first hat-trick in a Real Madrid shirt to help secure all three points away to Valladolid.

Although Los Blancos were the clear favorite, there was a slight worry to see how the team deal with the absence of Vinicius Junior, who served the first of a two game suspension.

However, Kylian Mbappé assured the traveling fans there is no cause for alarm, when he broke the deadlock on the half hour mark, bending his shot into the far corner following a Jude Bellingham pass.

The goal saw him score in a five straight games for the club, while he also reached the 20 goal mark, although his day was only about to get even better.

The Frenchman got his second three minutes before the hour mark. Real Madrid breakaway from the middle of the park with Rodrygo driving forward. Mbappé received the ball on the overlapping run, cuts inside and finds the far bottom corner for 2-0.

He completed his hat-trick from the spot on the first minute of added time, after Mario Martin was penalized for a foul on Jude Bellingham inside the area, which resulted in a second yellow and a subsequent dismissal.

Mbappé converted from 12 yards to complete his hat-trick and took his total goal scored and contributions for Real to 22 and 26 respectively.

He is now two goals behind Robert Lewandowski in the race for the Pichichi, while he also becomes the first-ever Real Madrid player to reach 15 goals after 19 games in their first season since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

His last five games has produced eight goals, signalling that Kylian has finally find his bearing in his new environment. Good luck dealing with him.

The 26-year-old is the star of the weekend in LaLiga. And how well can anyone perform to beat a hat-trick hero, who sends their club further clear at the top of the league standing?

Serie A: Mateo Retegui of Atalanta

The Italian striker bagged a decisive brace to deliver Gian Piero Gasperini's charge from what would have been an embarrassing result against Como.

The Bergamo club is in a position where it must not lose else, they surrender their status as a Scudetto contender, with both Napoli and Inter firing on all cylinders, looking like they could do no wrong.

They went down to a Nico Paz opener on the stroke of the half hour. However, whatever GPG told his players during the halftime break worked wonders as they returned to the pitch and turned things around.

Against the side who beat them 3-2 at home in the reverse fixture, Mateo Retegui scored less than five minutes before the hour mark to restore parity, converting a Marco Brescianini's low cross for his 15th league.

He completed his brace 20 minutes from time, firing home from the center of the box from another Brescianini's ball to complete the comeback and win Atalanta all the points to continue with the chase.

Retegui has now scored 16 Serie A goals this season, taking him three above Marcus Thuram in the race for the Capocannoniere this season.

The striker is our nomination as the best player in the Italian topflight during the weekend, and consistency with such performance may see him run out of sight of Thuram.

Bundesliga: Morgan Guilavogui of St. Pauli

The Guinean was at his brilliant best to help St. Pauli secure their first back-to-back Bundesliga win this season as his brace sent them on their way to a 3-0 thrashing of Union Berlin.

The newly promoted side headed into the game on a back of three straight defeats in their previous meetings with Union Berlin, but Guilavogui scored a minute after the half hour to give them a reason go stand up against their bully.

Set up by Jackson Irvine, the 26-year-old fired a ferocious shot from tight angle, managing to beat the goalkeeper.

Six minutes after the restart, Johannes Eggestein won possession in the final third, and teed up Guilavogui to fire home from the center of the box for 2-0.

Guilavogui registered an assist for the third goal, as substitute Daniel Sinani scored seconds after coming on to complete the route.

Guilavogui, who had a silent start to life with the Bundesliga club having joined on a season long loan from RC Lens in the summer, has now scored five goals and one assists in the Bundesliga, since scoring his first goal at the end of November.

This week, he emerges as our star of the weekend in the German topflight, ahead of others who had impressive outing during the weekend, like Hugo Ekitike and Adam Hlozek.

Ligue 1: Maghnes Akliouche of AS Monaco

The youngster was the star of the show as AS Monaco earned their first domestic victory of the new calendar year thanks to a 3-2 win at home to Rennes.

Monaco, who had lost just once in 14 League meetings with Rennes took the lead through a sensational overhead kick goal from Maghnes Akliouche in the 16th minute.

The French winger went for the spectacular from a Vanderson cross to register a goal, which saw Monaco find the back of the net in 16 consecutive meetings with Rennes.

Akliouche continued to run the show, creating chances for his teammates, none of which was converted until four minutes from the hour mark, when he teed up Aleksandr Golovin to make it 3-1.

Akliouche had one more chance to score for Monaco but his shot sailed just over the bar as it finished 3-2 to the host, who picked up their first league win since early December, and made it back-to-back wins following their Champions League win over Aston Villa.

With his three big chances created in the match, he now has nine in the Ligue 1 this season, three behind the player with most, while he has now contributed to eleven goals across all competitions, one behind his total of 12 last season.

Akliouche is our star of the weekend in the French topflight. His performance saw Monaco close the gap at the top, as both PSG and Olympic Marseille failed to win in their respective games.

Ultimate Player of the Weekend

Dango Outtara is the ultimate player of the weekend. The Bournemouth winger was decided, although others also were, he scored a hat-trick and all goals came from open play.

Becoming the first ever hat-trick scorer for his country in Premier League history also added to his recognition, while the status they are taking Bournemouth to with incredible performances such as this on a consistent basis makes him the most suitable.
