Picks, Preview & Prediction: City-Kop and the 10 key matches to watchout for this weekend

As Europe’s top leagues hit full stride, the weekend promises fireworks across stadiums from Manchester to Madrid and beyond as players attempt to make one final good impression before heading off for the international break.
The Premier League headlines the action with Manchester City hosting Liverpool in a fixture that has long defined modern title races, while Tottenham and Manchester United lock horns in another heavyweight clash that could shift momentum in both directions.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa’s push for the top four meets Bournemouth’s resilience, Barcelona face their bogey side Celta Vigo, and Real Madrid revisit familiar trouble at Rayo Vallecano.
From tactical tests to emotional subplots, here are the ten key matches to watch out for — with previews, and predictions for another defining round of European football.
City-Kop and the 10 key matches to watchout for this weekend
1. Manchester City vs. Liverpool
The fixture comes at the right time for both teams, as it would have been easier to pick a potential winner with a higher probability of getting it correctly a few weeks back than now.
Both Liverpool and Manchester City appeared to have returned to form, especially the Reds, who had been on a poor run that produced seven defeats in eight games before their win over Aston Villa last weekend.
Manchester City, who fell at Aston Villa a fortnight ago, have also put that behind them by winning their last three games, and both teams now look set to give a worthy spectacle when they lock horns in the Etihad on Sunday evening.

A match considered must-win for the two teams as they could have fallen nine points behind Arsenal before kickoff, if the Gunners can beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Liverpool are unbeaten in four against City, with Arne Slot capitalizing on the drop in form last season to win both fixtures, while Pep Guardiola will be keen to take down the Kop and earn his first win against the Dutchman.
Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool
2. Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United
After their winning run was ended at the City Ground last weekend, Ruben Amorim picked up the Premier League manager of the month award, a prize that has proven to be a bad omen since the turn of the year.
The Portuguese remain adamant that United is the better team compared to the side that defeated them in the Europa League final last season, and even though the hosts have experienced a change in management, they're placed higher on the standings on goal difference.
Spurs have made away grounds their favorites this season, but only teams in the relegation zone have earned fewer points at home, a concern for Thomas Frank, who will hope his team builds on the mid-week win over Copenhagen in London.
Last season, Tottenham Hotspur beat United in all four meetings, including the Europa League final, becoming the first side to beat the Red Devils four times in a single campaign since Everton almost 40 years ago.

While Ruben Amorim is actively seeking revenge and has got the better of top teams recently, Spurs will be looking for redemption to please the home fans, who have watched their team pick up just four league points in their first five games this season.
Prediction: Spurs 1-2 Man United
3. Aston Villa vs. Bournemouth
Not a fixture with aesthetic narrative, but recent achievements of both teams suggest their clash holds something special, like the two teams have done so far this season.
Bournemouth have proven pundits wrong of the assumption that they'll struggle following the mass exodus in their defence, but the reverse has been the case, and they stand tall as the rest of the heavyweights.
Aston Villa will be at home, and have won five of their last six Premier League games, only losing to Liverpool in Anfield last weekend, a blemish they've put behind them with a 2-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League on Thursday.
The chance to close in on Champions League places is there to be taken this weekend for Unai Emery's charge, and what better way to end the weekend before heading for the international break than winning and moving up the table?
Bournemouth has only lost to Liverpool and Manchester City in the league so far, on the opening weekend and in the last Matchday respectively, and Andoni Iraola will be keen to keep it restricted to the heavyweights, as they look to pounce with both Liverpool and City set to clash.
Villa are unbeaten in five meetings with Bournemouth, and have never lost to The Cherries since Iraola took over, with two wins and two draws. Their last defeat to Sunday's visitors came on the opening weekend of Bournemouth's return to the top flight in 2022-23.
Prediction: Aston Villa 2-2 Bournemouth
4. Celta Vigo vs. Barcelona

Barcelona faces its nemesis in the final LaLiga kickoff of the weekend, looking to bounce back from its Champions League failure on Wednesday night in Brugge, where it conceded three times in a draw against its host.
While Hansi Flick's high-line philosophy has received a lot of criticism due to the frequency of goals conceded this season, the German remains adamant and will continue to deploy similar defensive tactics, but will work on improvement.
Celta Vigo is not one of the best teams in the world, but they are Barcelona's bogey team, and have won four of their last 11 home games against the Catalan giants, losing just two.
Claudio Giraldez's team also comes into the game on the back of five consecutive wins, and eight unbeaten games, making them a formidable opponent, even by Barcelona's standards.
Winless in their last three visits to the Abalanca-Balaidos stadium, Barcelona's injury crisis makes it a possibility that their drought is extended, but the zeal of not falling further behind Real Madrid in the title race could spur them.
Prediction: Celta Vigo 2-3 Barcelona
5. Rayo Vallecano vs. Real Madrid
Barcelona are not the only team facing its bogey team this weekend in LaLiga. Real Madrid too, as they travel to Estadio de Vallecas to face Rayo Vallecano, whom they've only beaten once on the road since the latter returned to the topflight in 2019.
On Saturday, Xabi Alonso's side will be out to make up for their defeat at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday when they face Rayo Vallecano, a fixture that has never been easy for them.
Still considered the favourite, it is a chance to go eight points clear of Barcelona, who play later on Sunday, but Los Franjirrojos will make them work for it, if at all they will leave Vallecans with maximum points.
The host, aside from their impressive form in this fixture, have suffered one loss in their last eight games, winning six, and are currently positioned 10th in the league standings, four points off a place in Europe.

This rich form came on the back of a very poor start to the season, which saw them winless in their opening five games, during which they lost three and drew two, including a 1-1 score against Barcelona in tomorrow's venue.
Prediction: Rayo Vallecano 0-2 Real Madrid
6. Olympique Lyonnaise vs. Paris Saint-Germain
One of the biggest rivalries in French football has turned into a one-sided affair in recent years, as Lyon has only won six of their meetings with PSG since the start of the 2012-13 campaign.
In this period, the two heavyweights have clashed 32 times across all competitions, with Les Parisiens enjoying unprecedented success, winning 25, including each of the last five.
Lyon's last two victories over PSG have come at the Parc des Princes, meaning they are winless in their last eight meetings at the Groupama, suffering seven defeats.
A shot at redemption could have filled their thoughts a few weeks back, but after failing to build on an impressive win over Strasbourg, following it with two draws and one defeat, there will be concerns about their ability to topple the champions.
Yet, PSG's injury woes will give Paulo Fonseca reasons to be optimistic, as they seek their first home win over PSG since Nabil Fekir's second-half penalty sealed a comeback win in February 2019.
Prediction: Lyon 1-2 PSG
7. Strasbourg vs. Lille
Liam Rosenior has to find a way to improve the consistency of Strasbourg if they are to keep their status as one of the contenders for the Ligue 1 title as the season progresses.

No team in the current top 10 has suffered more defeats than their four, despite avoiding a loss at the home of defending champions PSG. They've disappointingly fallen to Monaco, Marseille, Lyon, and Rennes.
Another defeat at this stage of the season will cast further doubts over their credentials and hurt their chances of bettering last season's seventh-place finish.
Lille will be out to frustrate their ambition to continue feeding theirs. Bruno Genesio's team sits fourth, level on points with the two behind them and four points behind league leaders PSG.
No team has scored more than their 12 away goals so far, and they've won four of their last six away games at Strasbourg, although they lost the last two. They'll fancy their chances of re-establishing their dominance.
Prediction: Strasbourg 3-1 Lille
8. AZ Alkmaar vs. PSV Eindhoven
Third and second-placed teams will provide the much-needed spectacle in the Eredivisie this weekend as the kind fixture presents the lower-ranked teams with a chance to get back in the race for the title.
All attention will be switched to AFAS Stadium in Alkmaar, where AZ play host to defending champions PSV Eindhoven on Sunday evening, just before kickoff of league leader Feyenoord's trip to Go Ahead Eagles.
Both have had a satisfying start to the season. Bar the 2-0 shock home loss to Telsar at the end of August, PSV have only dropped points in a 2-2 draw with Ajax, but maintained a perfect record away from him in five league games so far.
Their host, AZ are unbeaten at home in the league since losing to Feyenoord in April, but have dropped points twice this season, with NEC Nijmegen and RKC Waalwijk both earning a point at the AFAS.
An interesting matchup awaits on Sunday, and PSV, who have won all of their last four visits look like the overwhelming favourite, and are odds on to inflict a first league loss on AZ, who head into the game on the back of a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace in the Conference League.
Prediction: AZ Alkmaar 1-3 PSV
9. Anderlecht vs. Club Brugge
After a stunning performance against Barcelona in the Champions League during the week, more of the same would be the shout of Club Brugge fans as they visit Anderlecht in the league, to keep up with leaders Union St. Gilloise.
Currently four points behind USG, Club Brugge faces a tough test against Anderlecht, who themselves are looking to get back into the title race, and winning this weekend will be a massive step in the proper direction.
Nevertheless, it is the visitors who will feel more confident heading into the clash, having won each of their last seven meetings, and are on better form heading into the game.
Prediction: Anderlecht 1-2 Club Brugge
10. Juventus vs. Torino

Juventus play host to the city rivals Torino in the Turim derby on Saturday evening, looking to extend their unbeaten run in the fixture to 23 having won 16 of the last 22 since a 2-1 away loss in April 2015.
Prediction: Juventus 2-0 Turim
