Achraf Hakimi and all the winners at 2025 CAF Awards

Achraf Hakimi finally got his hands on the CAF Men's Player of the Year award, becoming the first Moroccan to win the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998, after making the finals in three consecutive editions and not winning it.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back beat Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen to the award, thanks to his impeccable season, both individually and collectively, with his French club.
Hakimi, who had finished runner-up to Victor Osimhen and then Ademola Lookman in the previous two editions, was not to be beaten this time, and he picked up the prestigious prize in Rabat on Wednesday evening.
It was a big night for Morocco as they won a significant portion of the major awards, with the likes of Ghizlane Chebbak, Yassine Bounou, Othmane Maamma, and Doha El Madani also emerging as winners in their respective categories.
Achraf Hakimi and all the winners at the 2025 CAF Awards
Achraf Hakimi: Player of the Year
Achraf Hakimi beat previous winners Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen to the biggest award on the night after a stellar year with PSG and a flawless World Cup qualifying campaign with the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
Despite being a defender, Hakimi showed a knack for scoring goals and assisting them, amassing up to 37 goal involvements for club and country since the start of last season.
Despite Mohamed Salah's historical Premier League season and Victor Osimhen's conquest in Turkiye, none came close to Hakimi, who was part of the leadership group at quadruple winners, PSG.
It has been long coming for the 27-year-old, and kudos to him for not giving up and finally getting his hands on the prize, in an era dominated by attacking players, and becoming the first defender to win it since Tshimen of Zaire, now Congo DR, in 1973.
Yassine Bounou: Goalkeeper of the Year
The goalkeeper stood out for both club and country during the year, especially in the FIFA tournaments, helping Al Hilal make Club World Cup history and keeping six clean sheets in eight World Cup qualifiers games for Morocco.
Bounou becomes the first to win the award multiple times, after previously winning it in 2023 while playing for Spanish side Sevilla.
Clement Mzize: Goal of the Year
Clement Mzize won the 2025 CAF Goal of the Year award for his spectacular long-range strike scored for Young Africans (Yanga SC) against TP Mazembe in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
The Tanzania international received the ball outside the penalty area, surged forward at high speed, before unleashing a thunderous 30-yard shot into the top corner of the net.
The goal helped Yanga to a 3-1 comeback win over Mazembe in January.
Ghizlane Chebbak: Women Player of the Year
Ghizlane Chebbak made history as the first-ever Arab Woman to win the CAF Player of the Year award, beating her international teammate, Sanaa Mssoudy, and Nigeria's Rasheedat Ajibade.

The Moroccan international was vital in leading her nation to their first-ever WAFCON final, where they narrowly lost out to the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Chebbak's triumph raises eyebrows due to the close battle against Rasheedat Ajibade, but the Al Hilal attacker wouldn't mind the controversy; after all, such has always been the hallmark of individual awards.
Othmane Maamma: Youth Player of the Year
Just less than a month after leading Morocco to their first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title, Othmane Maamma is crowned CAF Men's Best Young Player of the Year.
The Watford attacker was the star of the show in Chile, where he finished the tournament as top assist provider and was named Player of the Tournament.
Pyramids FC: Club of the Year
It was a breakthrough year in the history of Pyramids FC as the Egyptian club won the CAF Champions League for the first time and could have also secured the League title, which was controversially awarded to Al Ahly.
They deservedly picked up the Club of the Year at the CAF awards, beating Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Morocco's RS Berkane.
Chiamaka Nnadozie: Women's Goalkeeper of the Year
Another history maker, and the only Nigerian individual to pick up a prize at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Chiamaka Nnadozie was crowned goalkeeper of the year for the third straight year.

Since the inception of the award in 2023, she has won all three, and extended her personal record, building an astonishing reputation to make herself the queen between the sticks, when it comes down to an all-timer in African football.
Morocco national under-20: Team of the Year
World champions Morocco under-20 deservedly won the team of the year award after their brilliant outing in Chile, where they became just the second African team to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup after Ghana in 2009.
The Atlas Cubs beat Spain, Brazil, United States, France, and Argentina on their way to claim a historic triumph, and not anyone would argue that the award is deserved, despite being the first-ever youth team to win it.
Fiston Mayele: Interclub Player of the Year
Fiston Mayele was rewarded for his brilliance since moving to Pyramids FC in 2023, after leading the club to a marvelous season, where they claimed the CAF Champions League and other prizes.
The Congo DR international scored 24 club goals and three assists since the start of last season, while also playing his part in his country's ongoing quest to reach the FIFA World Cup since 1974.
He deservedly picked up the Interclub Player of the Year award, fending off competition from Morocco duo of Oussama Lamlioui and Mohamed Chibi, the latter, who is also his teammate at Pyramids FC.
Doha El Madani: Women Youth Player of the Year
The 20-year-old forward defended the award she won one year ago, becoming the first player to win it multiple times.

Doha El Madani built on her CAF Women's Champions League top scorer achievement from last season by playing a pivotal part in the Moroccan League success with her club, ASFAR Rabat.
Bubista: Coach of the Year
After leading Cape Verde to their first-ever FIFA World Cup by picking up 23 points out of a possible 30 in Group D of the CAF qualifiers, Bubista was rewarded with the Coach of the Year award.
The former Cape Verde center back has transformed the national team since his appointment as the manager in 2020, leading them to back-to-back AFCON tournaments before missing out on the 2025 edition.
Omar Abdulkadir Artan: Referee of the Year
Omar Abdulkadir Artan becomes the first Somalian to win the CAF Referee of the Year award following his impressive performances in the CAF Champions League and domestic competitions.
Super Falcons: Women’s Team of the Year
The African champions made history by winning their 10th Women's AFCON title by beating fellow heavyweights in the continent, including South Africa and Morocco in the semi-final and final respectively.
Shamirah Nabadda: CAF Women's Referee of the Year
Shamirah Nabaddah becomes the second recipient of the CAF Women's Referee of the Year award, taking over from Morocco's Bouchra Karboubi, who won the maiden edition last year.

The fast-rising Ugandan has featured in the CAF Women's Champions League and Paris Olympics, as part of what is becoming an incredible officiating career.
Liban Abdoulrazack and Tabara Mbodji won the CAF Assistant Referee of the Year for Men and Women respectively.
