Players with 4+ Assists in a single La Liga Game in History

In La Liga history, achieving four or more assists in a single match is a very rare feat, despite the several world-class playmakers that have graced the Spanish topflight even in the modern era.
La Liga has witnessed the likes of Mesut Ozil, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Andres Iniesta, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Yet, none of these achieved the feat in their years playing in the competition.
More recently, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Antoine Griezmann, and several others, have been able to make their way into a list that comprises just four players.
Yet, notable players make a list of three, and from Xavi Hernandez's Clasico masterclass to Juanito's five assists haul, here are just two players who have assisted four or more goals in a single La Liga game.
Two Players with Four or more assists in a single LaLiga game
Xavi Hernandez – Four assists for Barcelona against Real Madrid in May 2009
In one of the editions of the Clasico, Xavi Hernández delivered a masterclass in playmaking, registering four assists as Barcelona cruised to a historic 6-2 victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

It came on May 2, 2009. His first assist of the game came in the 20th minute, a beautifully delivered free-kick, met by the header of Carles Puyol to give Barcelona the lead for the first time in the game.
In the 35th minute, Xavi stole the ball from Lassana Diarra before setting up Lionel Messi, who made it 3-1 with a composed finish, granting the Spaniard his second assist of the day.
His third assist came two minutes before the hour mark, releasing Thierry Henry with a perfectly weighted pass, enabling the Frenchman to chip Iker Casillas for his second of the day and Barcelona’s fourth.
Xavi completed a poker of assists 15 minutes from time, with a pass converted by Lionel Messi for Barcelona's penultimate goal of the match, before Gerard Pique added a sixth goal in the final ten minutes.
Xavi’s performance in this game defined his vision, composure, and passing excellence, orchestrating one of Barcelona’s greatest-ever wins in El Clásico history.
This match played a key role in Barcelona’s 2008-09 treble-winning season under Pep Guardiola and with six goals scored, it remains the club's most in a Clasico fixture in the last 74 years.
Juanito – Five assists for Real Madrid against Athletic Club in September 1980
When Real Madrid thrashed Athletic Club 7-1 in September 1980, not even Francisco Garcia Hernandez made the headlines for his hat-trick of goals but fellow forward Juanito was the star of the match.

The Spaniard, Juanito, delivered an unforgettable five-assist performance in the dominant win, which is the biggest result any side has managed in this fixture since their first-ever meeting in April 1903.
Juanito, renowned for his technical brilliance and creativity, was at the heart of Los Blancos' attack in a display of pure playmaking excellence.
He assisted five of the seven goals scored by Vujadin Boskov's charge in the second Gameweek of the La Liga season as four different players found the back of the net for Madrid, including Francisco Hernandez who bagged a hat-trick.
Alongside Hernandez, Uli Stielike, Laurie Cunningham, and Ricardo Gallego were all beneficiaries of his playmaking masterclass on the day.
Juanito's five-assist feat remains one of the finest individual performances in La Liga history.
These two Spaniards represent the only names to have assisted four or more La Liga assists in the history of the Spanish topflight, with Juanito being the only one to have done so for a home team while Xavi for an away team.
Xavi remains the only player to have achieved the feat in the 21st century while in both scenarios have happened in the historic Santiago Bernabeu stadium, home of Real Madrid.
Has Cristiano Ronaldo assisted four goals in a single La Liga game?
There are controversies as to whether Cristiano Ronaldo against Almería in May 2011 and Cesc Fabregas against Levante in August 2011 also matched this feat. However, officially, the duo had three and two assists respectively in those games.
