Actions continue in a busy month of January as top-flight leagues resume in full, following the conclusion of all Super Cups, with attention now turned to title races, continental qualifications, and relegation battles.

This weekend, a host of high-profile fixtures are on the agenda, from the Manchester derby in England, where Michael Carrick will take charge of his first game as United boss, to Bayern Munich's challenging trip to Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Man United vs. Man City 

The Manchester Derby takes center stage in the Premier League this weekend, with the city rivals aiming for different priorities as has been the case for a while now, especially in the league, where United remains out of contention.

Despite playing themselves into a comfortable position earlier in the season, the Red Devils have failed to maintain consistency, especially in winnable fixtures, plus internal conflicts have led to the departure of Ruben Amorim.

Michael Carrick is set to become their third manager this season following his return in an interim capacity, and while Old Trafford welcomes him back home, their city rivals will look to spoil their party.

City arrive at the home of their neighbors nine points better, but mindful of the gap with which they trail Arsenal as well as Aston Villa, with whom they are tied on points, and could move ahead of them in case of any slump.

United will be boosted by the return of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo, who had been at the AFCON with their countries, as well as the return to full fitness of Harry Maguire.

City head into the weekend on a better run of form and will be more confident after their 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg away win at Newcastle United in mid-week, but Manchester United have enjoyed the week's rest after their FA Cup disappointment.

Both sides will be eager to return to winning ways, but a favourite isn't far-fetched, and PSG, who are unbeaten at home in the league so far and have lost back-to-back games since May 2024, is more likely to come away with a win.

PSG are also unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Lille, winning seven, since a 1-0 Super Cup loss in Tel Aviv in August 2021.

RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich 

With the race for European places already heating up in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig will look to stay in the hunt when they entertain runaway leaders Bayern Munich at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday evening.

Following a historic first half of the Bundesliga season, league leaders Bayern Munich travel to the Red Bull Arena to face an RB Leipzig side eager to avenge a humiliating 0-6 opening-day defeat. 

While Vincent Kompany’s squad has set new scoring benchmarks and continues to churn out wins, including dominant displays against Wolfsburg and Köln, their visit to Saxony is clouded by a burgeoning injury crisis on the right flank.

While Lazio have maintained a formidable home reputation, remaining undefeated in 25 of their last 30 matches across all competitions, they enter the fixture hampered by a lack of offensive rhythm and a significant injury list including Boulaye Dia and Samuel Gigot. 

Conversely, Calcio Como arrive in the capital with an attack twice as productive as their hosts, averaging 1.5 goals per game and dominating possession with a substantial 61.83% average.
