Manchester United earned the biggest win of the weekend as they inflicted a fourth straight defeat on Liverpool, but the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea also secured important wins of their own, with Chelsea's at the City Ground being a milestone.

From the early kickoff that got Ange Postecoglou sacked and the late drama in Anfield, here are the biggest highlights of all nine Premier League games that went down during the weekend.

Man United earned an Anfield win in 10 years

Harry Maguire's late header secured Manchester United their first win away to Liverpool since January 2016, as they achieved back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time under Ruben Amorim on Sunday evening.

For the first time since November 2014, the champions suffered their fourth consecutive defeats across all competitions, having already lost at Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea before the international break.

United shocked the home crowd 62 seconds into the game as Amad Diallo set up Bryan Mbeumo to fire past Giorgio Mamardashvilli, who continues to wait for his first clean sheet for his new club.

United held on despite chances at both ends, with Cody Gakpo smashing the woodwork twice, but were also unable to double theír advantage with Bruno Fernandes coming closest, only to see his shot kiss the upright and out of play.

Liverpool finally drew level 12 minutes from time, with Cody Gakpo's tap-in from close range after being teed up by substitute Federico Chiesa, awaking the Anfield crowd to the prospect of a comeback.

However, it was Manchester United that scored the vital next goal through defender Harry Maguire, whose 84th-minute header from Bruno Fernandes' cross left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot, and into the back of the net to seal all three points.

It wasn't just United's first away win in Anfield since 2016; it was also their first time winning back-to-back Premier League games under Ruben Amorim and their 11th win in 35 Premier League games.

Arsenal ended poor run at Craven Cottage run

Arsenal have ended a run of back-to-back winless visits to Craven Cottage thanks to Leandro Trossard's first league goal of the season in a tidy game against Fulham, who defended compactly all game.

Mikel Arteta's charge was looking to build on the form that took them top of the league standings despite trailing Liverpool two games prior, but after drawing one and losing one in their last two visits, they knew it wouldn't be easy against Marco Silva's men.

Riccardo Calafiori had a brilliant strike ruled out for offside. Still, the moment of the game arrived just before the hour mark, with Leandro Trossard guiding home a shot from close range after Gabriel headed Bukayo Saka's corner into his path.

Arsenal, who conceded no shot on target, secured the win and kept another clean sheet, making it five in eight Premier League games and eight in 11 games across all competitions this season.

Chelsea's historic win got Ange sacked 

Chelsea stormed to a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the City Ground, winning three consecutive Premier League games at the stadium for the first time in their history, and that was where Forest owners called time on Ange Postecoglou's stint.

The host showed promise in the first half, but could not punish an underwhelming side, as Morgan Gibbs-White missed chance after chance, much to the relief of Enzo Maresca, who was watching from the stands as he serves his one-game ban.

Young defender Josh Acheampong headed the visitors in front four minutes after the restart, from Pedro Neto's cross, while the Portuguese doubled the advantage less than three minutes later, firing home a set-piece after a Reece James's touch.

Captain Reece James sealed a 3-0 win six minutes from time on his 200th Chelsea appearance, a result that lifts The Blues to 14 points, sending their host to the relegation zone, and leaving Forest no choice but to dissolve their contract with Ange Postecoglou.

Erling Haaland brace powers City past Everton

Erling Haaland continues to be the difference maker for Manchester City this season as his brace gave Pep Guardiola's charge all three points against a stubborn Everton in the Etihad on Saturday.

David Moyes' charge has enjoyed a good start to the season, but was missing one of their best players, Jack Grealish, who is still a City player on loan and ineligible to face his parent club.

Nevertheless, they made it an even affair until Erling Haaland decided to take matters into his own hands in a span of five minutes, two before the hour mark.

The Norwegian rises highest to power Nico O'Reilly's cross into the net to break the deadlock with his 10th Premier League goal of the season, becoming the first to reach double figures in the competition in three of the last four seasons.

Five minutes later, in the 63rd minute, the striker fired a Savinho cutback between the legs of a defender, leaving Pickford no chance to make a save, and sealing all three points for the host.

Aston Villa tame Spurs to continue run

Aston Villa have won five consecutive games across all competitions for the first time since a run of seven between February and April, turning around their worst-ever start to a season into a spectacle.

Goals from Morgan Rogers and substitute Emiliano Buendia helped them secure a come-from-behind win at Spurs, extending their winning run in this fixture to three.

Rodrigo Bentancur fired the host in front after five minutes with his first goal since December 2024, but the unfortunate omen that follows his goalscoring games recently would eventually catch up to Thomas Frank's team.

Spurs had not won any of the four previous games when the Uruguayan scored, two draws and two losses. Morgan Rogers scored a beautiful strike to restore parity for the visitors, eight minutes before the half-time break.

Crystal Palace and Bournemouth staged a match of the season 

Crystal Palace and Bournemouth may have played the match of the Premier League season following their thrilling encounter at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening, which ended in a 3-3 draw.

The visitors took a 2-0 lead courtesy of two first-half goals from teenage French striker Eli Junior Kroupi, but the host scored two of their own after the interval through another Frenchman, Jean-Phillip Mateta.

Ryan Christie restored Bournemouth's lead in the penultimate minute of normal time, only for Mateta to draw Palace level with a 90-6th minute penalty to complete his hat-trick.

The striker was again presented with another opportunity right after his third but skied it, missing the opportunity to steal all three points for Palace as the two teams, who have so far been impressive in the league, settled for a point each.

Sunderland continues to aim after taming Wolves

Sunderland continued their impressive home form in the Premier League with their third win out of four, one draw, taking their point total to 14 after eight games, already more than Southampton in the entirety of last season.

Nordi Mukiele broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with his first goal for the club after a quick exchange with Trai Hume, leaving Wolves in familiar territory so far this season.

They defended well amidst Wolves' pressures, and sealed the win with a second in added minute, with Chemsdine Talbi forcing Ladislav Krejci into an own goal to seal a 2-0 win, just moments after the visitors had a penalty appeal waved away.

Welbeck powered Brighton past Newcastle 

The consistency Newcastle United seeketh is yet to arrive as they stumbled to another league defeat during the weekend, taking their form to just one win and two defeats in their last four Premier League games.

Despite their positive start, they couldn't convert dominance into goals and conceded at a very poor time, as Danny Welbeck chipped Nick Pope after getting on the end of a nice through ball from Giorginio Rutter.

Nick Woltemade restored parity 14 minutes from time with a delightful backheel, but it was the host who had the last laugh as Danny Welbeck completed his brace eight minutes later to seal a third win in five unbeaten games for the host.

Burnley move out of the drop zone after Leeds win

Burnley ended a run of six wins without beating by beating fellow 0anewcomers, Leeds United, thanks to goals from French duo Lesley Ugochukwu and Loum Tchaouna at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Scott Parker's team headed into the fixture on the back of five defeats and one draw in their most recent games, including two consecutive in the league, which saw them drop into the relegation zone.

However, they were able to get the better of Leeds United, who missed the chance to return to winning ways and have now lost back-to-back games, and remain on eight points.

Premier League standings after the weekend 

Arsenal remain top of the standings and extended their lead to three points ahead of Manchester City, who move to second place after Liverpool's defeat. Bournemouth also moves ahead of the Reds but on similar statistics, while Chelsea completes the top five.

Brighton and Aston Villa move into the top half of the table, replacing the likes of Newcastle United, and Everton. Manchester United are now six points off first place. Tottenham continues to look less likely to challenge for the title.

No newly promoted side is left in the drop zone as Sunderland are seventh, Leeds United are 15th, and Burnley are 17th, although this could change if West Ham United beat Brentford in the Monday night kickoff at the Gtech.
