  Administrator April 23, 2025

The decisive business end of the season continues during the weekend, and several players continue to shine for their respective teams.

On this edition of top performers from the top five leagues, a lot of names who have previously appeared made the headlines again, while Adrien Truffert made his debut appearance, following a sensational performance in Rennes' win.

Top Performers From T5 Leagues During the Weekend

English Premier League: Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford

What a season the Cameroonian is having, plus it continues to get better as it nears it end. Again, the stat leader in the most prophesied league in the world.

The Brentford talisman had a hand in three of his club's four goals in a vital 4-2 win over Brighton as they continue to keep their dreams of reaching Europe alive in the Premier League run-in.

He opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes following a through pass from Keane Lewis-Potter in midfield. Mbeumo held his own between two Brighton defenders before unleashing a shot with his weaker right foot, which nestled into the back of the net.

He completed his brace three minutes after the restart, restoring the host's advantage after Danny Welbeck had restored parity in the closing moment of the first half.

After winning back possession following a poor goal kick from the visitors, Yoane Wissa passes the ball to Mbeumo, who, on with left foot, curls a shot that deflects off Lewis Dunk, taking his goal tally to 18 in the league this season.

He set up his partner in crime, Wissa, for the third to ensure the safety of the points, although it eventually finished 4-2 to Thomas Frank's side at the City Ground.

Mbeumo, who earned himself a reputation as one of the best players in the English top flight this season, has now reached 24 goal involvements, with only Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak the players having more.

He stood out above the rest during the gameweek and earned himself the status as the best in the league, amongst all the players in action during the weekend.

Spanish LaLiga: Raphinha of Barcelona

The Brazilian delivered a top-class performance, with a three-goal involvement, including an injury-time penalty, the LaLiga leaders came from 3-1 down to see off Celta Vigo 4-3.

Raphinha was Barcelona's hero, not for the first time this season, as the team conquered a resilient Celta Vigo at home, to mark a return to winning ways after the defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Europe during the week.

The Brazilian started his show just after the hour mark, while the visitors were already 3-1 up. He teed up Dani Olmo with a well-timed pass to reduce the deficit to just one.

Four minutes later, Raphinha headed home a Lamine Yamal cross to restore parity for Barcelona, who in the process reached three or more goals in 28 different games across all competitions this season.

The Ballon d'Or hopeful completed the comeback in the eighth minute of added time, scoring from the penalty spot to secure a massive win for Hansi Flick's charge, who temporarily moved seven points clear on the summit before Real Madrid reduced it back to four with the win later on Sunday.

Raphinha, with two goals and one assist, has now reached 24 goal contributions in the league this season—15 goals of which surpass his combined total of 13 in the previous two seasons in the competition.

The former Leeds United attacker is our star of LaLiga this weekend, and even if he hasn't been frequent on our list this season, he has been a standout star all along, and definitely a strong contender for the player of the season.

Italian Serie A: Assane Diao of Como

The youngster was on our list a couple of weeks ago, and he makes a return after a scintillating performance on Saturday, to give Como a third consecutive Serie A win for the first time since 1952 in a 3-0 win away to Lecce.

Assane Diao scored a brace, taking his tally in the Serie A to eight since joining the newly promoted club in January. No teenager has scored more goals in Europe top fiveEuropean  leagues in that period—also the club's top scorer in the competition.

After both sides had fashioned decent chances but no breakthrough, the Senegalese broke the deadlock three minutes after the half hour, connecting with a midfield pass from Nico Paz, managing to beat the offside line before slotting past the goalkeeper.

Defender Edoardo Goldaniga headed home from a free-kick to double the visitors' advantage six minutes from the end of normal time—his first Serie A goal in five years.

Assane Diao completed his brace late on, firing a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box with Gabriel Strefezza claiming the assist.

In just six fixtures played during the weekend, the 19-year-old stood out, helping Como move 14 points clear of the drop zone, and only he is deserving of the crown as the best player in Italy during the weekend.

German Bundesliga: Lucas Holer of Freiburg

Although the German has only scored five league goals this season, he has managed to make our list twice, after first appearing in November, when he scored two and assisted one in a 3-1 Freiburg win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Lucas Holer again returns to the company of elites as his brace resulted in a narrow win for European hopeful, Freiburg, against a very stubborn visitor, Hoffenheim, on Saturday.

Having won their previous two home games in this fixture, the hosts were looking to make it three straight home wins against Hoffenheim for the first time in Bundesliga history, and Holer got them off to a good start, scoring two minutes before the half hour from a Johan Manzambi assist.

Ritsu Doan soon doubled the lead eight minutes later, only for Freiburg to blow the two-goal lead just before half-time, as both Marius Bulter and Andrej Kramaric scored in added time to restore parity for the visitors.

Holer, who had only scored once in 18 games before the day, scored again three minutes before the hour mark to help reestablish the lead with the eventual match-winner—Vincenzo Griffo with the assist, his second of the game after the one to Ritsu Doan earlier in the game.

In the end, it's a 3-2 win for Freiburg, who have Lucas Holer's masterclass to thank for their good fortune. They move one point within from RB Leipzig in fourth with four games remaining.

Holler, who has now scored five Bundesliga goals this season, all coming in three different games, is our standout player in the league during a weekend, where no other player found the back of the net more than once for a winning team.

French Ligue 1: Adrien Truffert of Stade de Renais

Adrien Truffert was absolutely at the top of the game during the weekend, and he helped Rennes to their first home win in three games with his direct involvement in the two goals against Nantes.

The Frenchman, who had only scored one Ligue 1 goal in his first 28 appearances of the season, was on another level, on Friday night in Roazhon Park, as Rennes made it seven consecutive home wins in this fixture.

Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga missed the chance to give the host an early lead after missing a 14th-minute penalty, but Truffert scored less than nine minutes later to create separation between the two sides.

After the visitors leveled matters through Mostafa Mohamed nine minutes after the restart, Rennes went in search of an equalizer, and they eventually had it two minutes to the end of normal time, through Mohamed Meite, who headed home from a Truffert corner.

Truffert, aside from the goal contributions, also created seven chances, two big chances, won nine duels, and made five recoveries in an all-around performance, which helped Rennes move back into the top 10.

He was so good that he came out on top ahead of Jonathan David, who had a hand in all of Lille's three goals in the win over Auxerre.

Ultimate Player of the weekend

Brentford's player of the season already, if not yet confirmed, Bryan Mbeumo has been on a mission since the start of the season, and this recognition is but deserved.

Two goals and one assist, all from open play, the Cameroonian is selected, just ahead of Raphinha, who was also a force in Barcelona's comeback win.
