  Hassan Afolabi February 27, 2026

Title races hit the final third! We preview this weekend’s biggest European clashes, including Arsenal vs. Chelsea and Der Klassiker. See our predictions.

In Europe's top five leagues this weekend, leaders in England and Germany will be involved in high stake matches that could become very decisive in the title races come the end of the season.

Arsenal play host to Chelsea in the Premier League while Bayern Munich visits Signal Iduna Park, home of Dortmund, their direct rival for the Bundesliga title. Barcelona are also involved in a top three battle with Villarreal visiting the Camp Nou.

We have selected the biggest fixtures in each of the top five leagues for this weekend, and below are the previews, and predictions, as the title races hit the final third.

Arsenal, Barça & Bayern, put title chances on the line

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Premier League leaders Arsenal face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday, aiming to solidify their position at the top of the Premier League and finally put an end to their inconsistent run.

Mikel Arteta’s side enters the contest following a convincing 4-1 victory in the North London derby, and with Manchester City applying pressure in the title race, the Gunners will look to maintain their momentum against a struggling Chelsea side.

Chelsea, managed by Liam Rosenior, travel to North London hoping to snap a winless streak of eight league matches against Arsenal, who have also won twice in the fixture since the arrival of the new manager in January.

Despite recent draws against Burnley and Leeds, the Blues have struggled with discipline, frequently dropping points from winning positions this season.

Rosenior will need his squad to show significant defensive improvement to contain Arsenal’s potent attack, which has scored 31 times against Chelsea under the Spaniard, and has never blanked in 22 of their last 23 meetings across all competitions.

Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres were instrumental in the host's victory last time out, while Cole Palmer remains Chelsea’s primary creative threat, with Joao Pedro also now finding the next consistently.

With Chelsea having conceded late goals consistently, Arsenal’s ability to dominate the final third will be critical in breaking down a Blues defense that is prone to costly individual mistakes.

History also leans toward the Gunners, who have lost only one of their last 25 London derbies, and as the season enters its final stages, this fixture represents a defining moment for both Arsenal’s title ambitions, and Chelsea's quest to reach the Champions League next season.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea

Barcelona vs Villarreal

League leaders Barcelona host third-placed Villarreal at the Camp Nou on Saturday, looking to extend their advantage over Real Madrid to four points having reclaimed the summit last weekend.

Hansi Flick’s side enters the clash in strong domestic form despite a heavy Copa del Rey defeat recently, but will also be wary of the Yellow Submarine, who remain firmly in the top-four mix, bolstered by a solid run of three wins in their last four league matches.

The Catalan giants have been dealt a significant blow with the news that Frenkie de Jong will be sidelined for up to six weeks following a hamstring injury sustained in training.

The Dutch midfielder joins a growing list of concerns, though the return of Pedri provides some relief. Barcelona will rely on their potent attack to break down a resilient Villarreal side that has historically troubled them away.

Villarreal arrive in Catalonia with renewed confidence after a recent 2-1 victory against Valencia. Marcelino’s squad, now focused entirely on domestic success, has proven dangerous on the road, with only two teams earning more points.

While Barcelona are clear favorites, Villarreal's ability to exploit space and clinical edge suggests they are well-equipped to test the league leaders’ high defensive line in what promises to be an open encounter.

Barcelona secured a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture, but it was a contest that could have gone either way, with Villarreal creating as many big chances, while they also remained resilient despite going a man down before halftime.

Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Villarreal

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich

Signal Iduna Park hosts a pivotal Der Klassiker this Saturday, with Borussia Dortmund desperate to slash Bayern Munich’s eight-point Bundesliga lead while the visitors seeks a win that'll see them stay out of sight.

Despite a recent Champions League exit against Atalanta, Dortmund maintains an impressive 16-game unbeaten league run, and a victory at home is essential to breathe life into their title aspirations and close the gap on the dominant table-toppers.

League leaders Bayern Munich enter the fray on a commanding four-match winning streak, most recently edging past Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2, capitalizing on a weekend where the rest of the top six failed to secure a victory.

Vincent Kompany’s side has been prolific this campaign, boasting a staggering 85 league goals. While they hold a significant cushion, the Bavarians remain focused on securing a win to all but confirm their status as German champions for the 2025-26 season.

Team news reveals contrasting challenges for both managers. Dortmund will be without the suspended Julian Ryerson, placing pressure on key creator Fabio Silva and striker Sehrou Guirassy to lead the offensive effort.

Bayern must also navigate the absence of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer through injury, though the potent attack, spearheaded by Bundesliga top scorer Harry Kane, remains the primary threat as they aim to exploit Dortmund’s defensive setup.

Notably, Bayern holds the statistical advantage this season, but Dortmund’s unbeaten home record provides a resilient foundation to try and upset the odds against a team they've not beaten at home since August 2019.

Both teams are likely to find the net as have been the case in several of their meetings, although Bayern Munich has proven to be more clinical, and with the attacking trio of Kane, Diaz, and Olise still delivering, the Bavarians could be in for another treat.

Prediction: Dortmund 1-3 Bayern

AS Roma vs Juventus

Fourth-placed Roma will be looking for a win to solidify their position and maybe move up the Serie A standings in a pivotal encounter for Champions League qualification against Juventus.

Having enjoyed a robust period of form, Roma’s disciplined defense at home remains their greatest asset, bolstered by the creative return of key players like Paulo Dybala.

Conversely, Juventus arrives in the capital desperate to reverse a difficult spell. Sitting fifth with 46 points, the Bianconeri face mounting pressure following their recent Champions League elimination by Galatasaray.

Managerial consistency has been elusive, and the squad is currently contending with several injury setbacks. A victory is essential to keep their top-four ambitions alive and bridge the gap with those above them.

This historic rivalry often produces intense tactical battles, and Sunday promises to be no different. Juventus, unbeaten in the last five against Roma but are also winless in their last three visits to the Stadio Olympico.

Both teams recognize the massive implications of this fixture, making it a critical litmus test for their respective performances during the final third of the Serie A season.

Prediction: Roma 2-2 Juventus

Olympique Marseille vs Olympique Lyonnais

The Orange Vélodrome plays host to a critical encounter this Sunday as Olympique Marseille welcome rivals Lyon, whose 13-game winning streak came to an end in a 3-1 defeat to Strasbourg last weekend.

With both clubs battling to cement their positions in the top four, the stakes for European qualification remain immense, although the visitors have in recent weeks moved ahead, following a scintillating form.

Despite Marseille’s recent struggles, their formidable home record provides a necessary psychological boost as they look to stifle a Lyon side currently enjoying a superb run of form, with five wins in their last six.

Paulo Fonseca’s tactical reliance on defensive solidity and clinical counter-attacks has proven difficult for opponents to break down. However, the visitors face a depleted squad, with multiple regulars sidelined with injuries.

Marseille manager Habib Beye must address his team’s recent lack of offensive rhythm, as they enter the match winless in three outings, a run that started with a 5-0 loss to PSG, and led to Roberto De Zerbi's departure.

Yet, the hosts have been notably sharper at the Vélodrome, losing just once in the league all season. They have also won their last three home meetings with Lyon but will need to dig deeper to get a positive result on Sunday.

Prediction: Marseille 1-2 Lyon
