Football Betting Glossary (A–Z)

A comprehensive reference of 102 football betting markets, odds terms, and coupon jargon — from 1X2 and Asian handicap to scorecast, system bets, and card markets. Use it to decode bookmaker slips and match them to tips on BetrekaTips.

90-minute rule: Unless stated otherwise, football markets apply to regular time (90 minutes) plus injury time. Extra time and penalty shoot-outs are not included.

A 7

Accumulator (Acca / Parlay)

A single bet with two or more selections across one or more matches. Every leg must win for the acca to pay out; one failure loses the entire stake. Also called a parlay or multiple.

Anytime Goalscorer

Back a named player to score at any point in regular time. Own goals usually do not count for the scorer market — check book rules.

Related: goalscorer tips.

Asian Handicap (AH)

Handicap betting that removes the draw option. Lines include whole goals (+1, -1) and half/quarter lines (+0.5, -0.25). Quarter lines split your stake between two adjacent handicaps.

  • -0.5 — team must win outright.
  • +0.5 — team must not lose (win or draw).
  • -1.0 — win by 2+; win by 1 may push/refund on some lines.

Away to Score

The away team must score at least one goal in regular time. Final result does not matter.

Away to Score in Both Halves

The away team must score in the 1st half and the 2nd half. Missing either half loses the bet.

Away to Win Either Half

The away team must outscore the opponent in the 1st half or the 2nd half. They do not need to win the full match.

Away Win to Nil

The away team wins and does not concede (e.g. 0–1, 0–2). Combines away match winner and clean sheet.

B 6

Banker

The selection you trust most in an accumulator. If the banker loses, the whole coupon usually loses.

Bet Builder (Same-Game Multi)

Combine several markets from one match into one bet — e.g. Home Win + BTTS Yes + Over 2.5. All parts must win.

Booking Points (Cards)

Total cards market using a points system: yellow = 10 points, red = 25 points (rules vary by book). Bet over/under the line.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS / GG)

Will both teams score at least once in regular time?

  • BTTS Yes / GG — both score.
  • BTTS No / NG — at least one team fails to score.

BTTS predictions · BTTS hub

BTTS in Both Halves

Both teams must score in the 1st half and both must score in the 2nd half — a stricter variant of standard BTTS.

BTTS & Over/Under Combos

Combined markets such as GG & Over 2.5 or NG & Under 2.5. Both conditions must land.

C 8

Cash Out

Settle a bet early before the event finishes. The book offers a live price based on current odds and match state — may be more or less than your potential full win.

Clean Sheet

A team concedes zero goals. Markets include home/away clean sheet Yes/No and win-to-nil variants.

Combo Bet (Same-Match Multi)

Two or more markets on one fixture (e.g. 1X2 + Over 2.5 goals). All selections must be correct.

E 4

Each Way (Outright Markets)

Enhanced Odds / Price Boost

Whether a team scores 2 or 3 consecutive goals without the opponent replying — offered as Yes/No for home, away, or either team.

Goalscorer Markets

Includes anytime, first, last, and scorecast/wincast combos with match result. Player must usually start or come on for the bet to stand.

Goalscorer tips
